Need to air my fury;

My GT is 2 years old on 28/06. This week the air bag light came on. I booked it in with Donalds at P'boro for today.

My girlfriend took the car over this avo and this is what has happened up to now.

They put car on diagnostics machine and it showed a fault in the passenger airbag and they confirmed that this need replacing at a cost of £975 :wow:

They then said that on the 'efigi' report the car was coming up with no warranty date. My lady said "The car is registered on the v5 from 28/06/07 so as far as i'm concerned the car is under two years old so is under manufactuers warranty"

They said without a warranty date on this report they can't do anything. She then phoned me and i went ape, i thought they were trying to get out of doing the work and then expecting me to claim on the third year warranty that i have personally taken out (which doesn't cover airbags i have just found).

I then phoned them and got the same story. A helpful chap then told me to me to ring Alfa and talk to customer relations. I spent an hour on the phone to Mario who confimred on his report that the car infact hadn't been registered for warranty but my argument is that the car is under 2 years old so the fact it hasn't been registered is irrelevent.

I have now got to scan and e-mail the v5 and report from donalds to alfa uk to allow them to insert a warranty start date. Surely donalds could have done this as all i am doing is regestering it retrospectivly??

I'm so angry that people don't want to help and i am clearly in the right. I'm stuck with a bill for £1000 for a car that is under warranty.

I'm sick

I can't get my head around this  I would of thought that the date of registration triggers the warranty date  and that this is done by the dealer who registers the car in the first place, at the point of sale

Ha ha! Normal service resumed.

I've reported on Donalds, they are disgraceful, only interested in money, not customer service, ditch them and go elsewhere, boycott this stealership!

looks like it didn't get registered in the first instance - like i said this is inconsiquential, the car is under two years old - registered or not.

If some of the dealers on here see this you might get good advice on how to proceed.Best thing to do now is surf the web for your rights and any similar stories. If all else fails, appeal to Alfa head office. They should look after you.
Over here we have an independent body who looks after this kind of thing. If you have the equivalent, you should definately get on to them.POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!

Don't feel i should have to fight for anything - it's under warranty, be it for two days or two years. How does the car get it's warranty date?? is it the registration date on the v05??

Slight off topic about it but....

..... have you thought about maybe taking it to a Alfa Specialist just to confirm what the dealer has said is wrong as when the airbag light has come on then it might just be the airbag connector under a seat.

Just a thought fella!!!

Chances are that they're completely wrong about the fault too. It's almost always the connector, not the airbag itself.

It must of been registered otherwise you wouldn't have the V5, number plate, tax, insurance companies wouldn't have the car details, list could go on......... But like you say the car is less that two years old, FACT............

If you look under the drivers seat and passenger seat there should be a bunch of cables, make sure the keys are nowhere insight and no power going through the electronics then unplug them and plug them back in, you can also try wiggling the cables if you dont fancy unplugging them.

What they are saying is the warranty has not been regestered with alfa - by what this means i know not!! They are saying there is no warranty date on there system for the vehicle - don't know this has happened but its what they are saying:confused:

Not your fault, tell them to get it sorted or you will seek legal advice.
Will see what they say after i have sent the vo5 and report from donalds to Alfa uk. To be fair Gino was really helpful and he said if there are no warranty exceptions on car  which he said there aren't the warranty date will get insertered and things will get sorted - i'm not holding my breath - i'm so stressed:(
