Rebuilt the head on my 2.0 twinspark at the weekend started it up and blue smoke is emitting from the exhaust, I have heard that the oil feed hole in the inlet manifold between 1 and 2 can cause this. engine runs lovely a bit tappety at first but has since quietened down the only prob now is the smoke. I need to do a compression test to definitely rule out rings etc but all comp readings were ok before 170 - 180 psi. Im a bit stuck what to do. Any advice?

Did you have the cams and valves out? If so one of the valve guide oil seals could be leaking.

If the seals are old they loose their elastisity and become hard and so wont fit so tight round the valve. Or when takin the valve out and in you may have nicked or moved it off its mounting slightly. Oil would then leak continually through the seal causing the smoke.
