My 156 v6 has the non sport pack shocks fitted and I think there in need of replacing. There not leaking or anything and I passed the mot in April no problems but I think they may be going soft. A few times Ive driven over a speed bump and it's grounded on the underside of ther front lower bumper. Also the exhaust front pipe is flattened underneath and it wont be long before it's worn through.

I dont have the money tho throw at a set of sports coilovers (although I'd love to fit a set) but If i bought a set of standard sport pack shocks and some new springs would this stiffen everything up. I've just bought a set of new front pipes and dont want to fit them if I'm just going to keep grounding them and wear a hole in them in 3 months.

It's the springs that set the ride height - shocks just dampen the spring effect

Ahhhhh so do you think it's my springs that have weakened? i know the shocks are fine so maybe I should invest in a new set of springs.

Any advice people, nice and low would be nice :)

I reckon so, one of my fronts springs was bust when I changed the lot over

When the shocks have failed then the springs do compress easier - the shocks resist compression and also resist uncompression, to dampen the bounciness of the suspension. Both are probably contributing.

I had a look at work today and found a pair of 2nd hand Eibach Pro springs and also a pair of very clean looking Sportpack V6 front shocks - send me an email if you're interested

right here goes

springs support weight, shock absorbers control rate of compression and rebound
in time and use shocker absorbers lose their control in compression and rebound, springs lose a bit of ride hieght but not much ....
i imagine your car wallows a lot in bends ,shocks lose their damping and because the way they are valved rebound is harder and compression is strong because recoiling spring is harder to control than a compressing one
your shocks sound well shot i would do rears as well
