not following - have i missed something?

must say, i have had parts from this vendor quite recently with no problem at all. got to pick my own parts from the cars/spares available - including teledials and a Cup splitter.

and , i got the stuff (a carload) for less than we had originally agreed

he doesnt always break the cars he buys - when i was there (late autumn 2011) he was running one himself and slowly bettering it with parts from breakers. his dad was running a spider

Some cars do go beyond economical repair and their parts help us keep our cars on the road without breaking the bank. How much did you pay for your teledials? If you don't mind me asking.

Yep - I am not sure i get the point either.

I bought a few items from the guy as he is local to me and we agreed sensible money at the time he was running about three GTV's / Spider's.

Elsewhere on this board there are respected members breaking cars for the reasons stated by GPaddy so not sure what the issue is...

Also purchased two items from this ebay seller, good comms and prices, no problems at all.

Without breaking cars it's doubtful whether we'd keep our own 916 Alfas on the road. Either prices are ludicrously high from Alfa, or indeed some are difficult to obtain at all.

Bit of 'realism' is needed here I think.

Seems a shame, but then, if no-one wanted the parts, he wouldnt do it, as I doubt he is breaking them for fun (or malice!)

I think SGH would be more of a special "Uncle" or perhaps Stepdad charactor rather than his mother Persimmon .He does sound troubled though .

I felt a bit annoyed that when He bought my car, he said it was going to be a cheap run about, The next day it was on sale on eBay!!!

agree with all posts..................... without someone stripping the odd alfa there wouldnt be many spare parts and we need them !! lol

and no-one does it for fun he has to make money

if i sell my car for £200 i cant complain when i see it for sale for say £300 i sold it

i cant tell the buyer what he has to do with my car once its sold..........

i think if upset about being done so to speak not really gentleman like to post on forum im sure if a dealer or trade there are many happy customers .......

sorry if anyone takes offence to my post ..................just playing devils Advocate

SGH bought my donor twinnie of me via ebay. I was happy to see it go as it was no further use to me.
Saw it on ebay later with leather interior.Hopefully he made a profit for his trouble having travelled 100+ miles and done some sorting.
Not quite sure what problem is.:confused:

I think its clear what he was getting at and as a commited Alfisti, I take his point. You try finding a good Alfetta or 33, I think there is only 1 Alfa 90 on the road In this country. Gtvs seem plentiful now and easy to dispose of but I wish more of the cars that just need some tlc were being saved and the ones being broken were the write offs and the basket cases. Still, when there's a quick buck to be made..........

Well my front seats were stolen the other day and he was the closest to my house I could find to get new seats.

If you have ever broken a car, you'll know that there is no "quick buck" to be made. It's a massive hassle and you end up with pieces of car strewn in every little nook and cranny of your house. It took me 3 solid days of work to break my 145 down into pieces and on top of that I had to arrange pick up, collection and all the bother of V5 etc etc.

On top of that you get a lot of people, even from the forums, messing you about - you'll be wasting your Saturdays waiting for people to turn up only to turn up late etc etc.

Most of the cars he had there seemed to be basket cases, you can't really blame someone for buying a car and braking if it had more problems than originally thought of - I want cars to go to a good home but at the end of the day cars don't feed your kids...so it is a big ask for someone to say "don't break it".

Thanks to this guy my GTV is back up and running and his prices were extremely fair - he also understood the position I was in!

Would like to throw my half penny worth. I have bought parts from SGH in the past even travelled to London from Silverstone to collect a zender boot spoiler. His communication was good and even waited around for me to turn up to collect the spoiler. Even then escorted me to the m25 so I could get on my way can home.
He has since sold me other bits and bobs and postage of items has been quick and well informed.
I have managed to slowly but surely turn my drab mk1 2 ltr twinny into something that puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.
It's down to people like SGH that make this happen.
Keep up the good work SGH I say

hello all,
i cant help but feel this has all started on the wrong foot, i have sadly had to break 3 alfas recently, not just to make money and ends meet but not to waste these cars,
my standard gtv i have had for years, sadly blew the clutch up, as the car was only worth a little and didnt have £450 to repair the clutch i broke her, i then brought daves gtv.
again this car actually broke down on the way back and i got recovered from the rac as the gear box completly went. i also broke the lovely spider from wales as it was a cat c. i dont brake good alfas thats not the point, it was part time fun to help me finish current projects and sell the surplus, obviously minus the problems i have had with the cars,
i have offered out parts at decent money and tried to get some of these back on the road, with the price of gtv dropping to £1000 or less, it doesnt make sense to save them all. i am more then up for throwing parts for cheap money, as some of the guys have mentioned on here on ebay for 99p starts etc, reveds1969 is a top guy who has needs odd bits.
buellboy after what happened to yours glad we could get her back for £160, r100gspd your lovely spider was worth the drive at silly o clock to wales but was to much to repair, Davemackenzie i wanted a run around but didnt work. to sum up i would like guidance on prices as its only me, not a company so would rather sell the parts and keep these on the road, so if anyone needs anything let me know, cheers steven
