Hi all, the 159 is due its annual service in a couple of weeks and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a decent independant.

I'm in Sherborne, Dorset. All work so far has been completed by Meridien Milano Bournemouth, though now its out of warranty and going from previous experience of them I want a decent independant.

The only 2 I know of are Melbury Motors in Shaftesbury, they used to be Italian specialists but seem to have deviated to the German market. There's RedMotori in Spetisbury, look like a decent outfit but would like to know of anyones experience of them.

Any suggestions from the floor would be most grateful...

Sherborne, Dorset, UK to Hook RG27 8AG, UK - Google Maps -> AHM

Who could resist an early morning blast up the A303? :)

I'm taking mine there but I realise it's quite a trek. There are a couple of Italian car specialists in Poole:
Car Servicing | Garage Services | Car Repair | Alfa Romeo | Fiat
http://www.sandhmotors.co.uk/

No personal experience of them though.

Cheers IPAddis, it'll probably be going there for a combined EGR/DPF/remap & cambelt service sometime next year but a bit far for a minor service tbh. I'll check out the prices from your suggestions; currently waiting on RedMotori's quotes...

bungers.. just down the road from me mate. im in gillingham. ive never used red motori for my alfa, but they do seem to know their stuff. Melbury motors are ok... if a bit expensive at times... The mechanic there is still one from the alfa fiat days it seems.

Red Motori get my vote. Really know their stuff and good guys too.

They've spotted a couple of things on my car i've been grateful for and also persuaded me against spending money where it's not necessarily needed when they could have fleeced me. Couldn't recommend them any more.

Just had both cars done at Red Motori. They spotted the sump plug was a bit gone on the 147 and helicoiled it for me and advised earlier this year ( when the alternator seized) that the idler wheel would need doing with the belts too.
On the 159, just had belts, water pump and service done, showed me the water pump had just started to seep ( at 39k) and advised about best way to do brakes before the MOT in Sept.

Give them a weeks notice and you'll get a Red Motori courtesy car, either a 156 saloon or sportwagon.
Takes me around 35 mins to get to Spetisbury from twixt Milborne Port and Stalbridge!

If you go there , watch out for the Gatso cameras in the village before and in Spetisbury....!

Price-wise, they seem to charge the same as all the Indies and they'll advise on what needs doing for an annual service

If you want to try my remap, you're welcome.

I have found the Meridian Milano Pompy PO6 2AH service very good indeed.

Another vote for Red Motori from me. They did a service in October last year on my diesel GT plus brake discs and pads. They recommended water pump and cambelt change at 50,000 miles (see other threads!) and they did that last week, plus a couple of bulbs, for under £400 which I thought was pretty good.

Well worth the hour's drive each way to get there I reckon.
