Hi,

Kinda related to this post, but I'm looking for a Selespeed expert in the Torquay/Newton Abbot/Exeter area. By 'expert' I mean either an Alfa specialist garage, or an AO club member looking to earn some beer tokens. :)

Just to complicate the issue, I'm in London whereas the family's 147 (was my mother's, is currently my father's and may soon be mine) is in Torquay, making diagnosis and fixing of the problem difficult.

For garages, the car has been regularly serviced by Vospers in Exeter, but I'm frightened that they will hit me with a massive bill just for looking at her. So I'm after a local specialist. Autoitaliana (still going?) and Perfect Service have been mentioned, as have Winners and Seymour Horwell (Volvo?), but any one of these got a good reputation for sorting Selespeed?

For AO members, details of the problem can be found here in the technical area, but the car is currently laid up with a dead battery. My father is reluctant to go near the car, so it would require a local AO member with a laptop and Alfadiag to visit him in Torquay (I would organise for a new battery).

Would be grateful for any advice and/or offers to help.

Cheers,
Phil.

Selespeed Expert

Hi Phil

I run an auto electrical and diagnostic workshop in Bridgwater, Somerset.

I drive Alfas myself. We have special Alfa workshop tools, including diagnostics. I have lots of experience with Selespeed faults.

If needed, I can arrange collection/recovery of the vehicle (cost to be agreed) and perform inital diagnostics for a fixed fee. If the car will drive, I can drop the driver back to the railway station.

Due to the intermittent nature it would be best to leave the car with me for a week or two, so that I can experience the fault whilst the car is near to the test equipment.

We specialise in fixing problem jobs that fox other garages.

Please PM me for details.

James.
