Hi all,

I've been having a couple of problems with my 147 Selespeed (haven't we all?) and want to get this recalibrated. Is there anyone around the Aberdeen area that can do this?

I've tried Kirkhill, but they don't have the required kit, and Arnold Clark are next to useless.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

all you need is:

1. a laptop with usb ports

2. a KKL Interface, standard cofig from ebay [ will do engine & airbag ] or a modified one form myself or Rarebear which will do airbags & abs system too ... PM me if you are interested in buying one

3. software from www.alfaidag.net [ €60 ]

And two spanners (19mm and 10mm) ;)

Having an assistant to read out the clutch rod length is useful as well.

For normal maintenance every 12000 miles or once every 12 months. Unless there is a problem then it can be used an indicator.

All,

Thanks for the advice - tempted to give it a try myself using Alfadiag - is this a job for a novice?

The problem revolves around "missing" 3rd gear - this seems to happen if i've made a few short trips, or when in traffic. I think it also seems worse when the engine is hot. Selespeed oil seems OK.

The car is 8 years old - i've had it for a year - i know it was serviced previously by a non Alfa specialist, so i'm guessing the 'box may never have been recalibrated!?

Cheers.

clutch rod length maybe out of range i.e. over 29 mm , just a small job but a giant leap for Selespeed !!

Thanks to all for help so far.

I now have all the kit required - but i need to ask a very basic question. Where is the connector/port on the selespeed ecu?

I've been looking in the passenger footwell, and can't see anything that resembles the connector on the cable. I found the engine port to the right of the steering column, and this connected fine - so i was looking for a similar port.

Any help would be much appreciated. If anyone has a photo of the selespeed port, that would be even better.

Sorry to be such a "dunderheid".

Thanks

Thanks Iain - got that to work.

The original reason to do the calibration was beacuse the car stalled last week - i got a "motor control system failure" & it wouldn't restart. Found out today (using alfadiag) that the rod needed adjustment & did the necessary.

I took the car out for a test run and, after about 10 minutes, i got the same motor control failure and, when the car slowed and dropped into 1st gear, it stalled again. I still had alfadiag running, and the selespeed had 2 fault codes -switch 0 & switch 1.

The engine fault code was "flywheel sensor".

Does anyone have any ideas?

Also, can alfadiag tell me if the recall 4407 has been done?

Thanks again folks.

The flywheel sensor is the crank sensor - it's a pretty common failure. £20 for the part, and not too difficult to change. One hex bolt (the sensor is under the started motor).

Make sure you retrieve the o-ring from the old one before fitting the new one...

I've got several working used ones if you want one of them.

All,

I've now done the clutch rod adjustment (was over 29mm, now 28.3mm), and also installed the new crank sensor - thanks again IainFM.

Took the car for a test run tonight and the stalling/motor control system failure issues seem to have been solved - hurrah!!

BUT... the car is STILL missing 3rd gear going up through the box (happens in both city & manual). It seems to be "thinking about it" - there is a delay, and it then selects N or 5th - this seems worse when the car has been used for short trips or is hot.

When I got back I reattached alfadiag and tried the gear selection and, again, it woudln't select 3rd or 4th. I tried to do a recalibration, but this failed part way through.

I'm going to check for swarf in the end box at the weekend, but does anyone have any other ideas?
