Hi all,
I have a 1985 S3 spider that came with a Bosch electronic distributor C/w vacuum advance however, I had to replace the pick-up coil so took it to the distributor, "experts" in Melbourne AU to repair it but what they did was removed and lost the springs and weights.
Does anyone know what the original springs, weights and curve should be?
I'd appreciate any advice on this matter.
thanks

I would think that a Bosch autorized autoelectician can find the part nos. in there catalogs.
I remember that auto part distributors used to have cross reference chards, so maybe a pars distibutor who been around for a long time might help with the right parts.
Classic Alfa in UK have rebuild and new distributors if anything else is without luck.

thanks Erik,
I tried here in Australia without any luck as its not a common distributor however, will give Classic Alfa in the UK a try as per your suggestion; the UK seems to be more Alfa friendly than OZ.
Thanks again,
Gerard

Their are lots of Alfa classico parts suppliers in Europe (and US), British, Netherlands and German. At the moment the British are ceapest due to a weak £.
Maybe you should contact Highwoodalfa.com, ebspares.co.uk or alfaholics.co.uk as they are more tecnical engaged in classico Alfas, so with luck, they might be able ot supply springs and weights.

I think you will find these parts really difficult to find and you are left with buying a s/h distributor and swopping out the springs or buying a 123 with vacuum advance from somewhere like classic alfa
- ignition

Post the Bosch number on your distributor, someone here might have an old one laying around.

This guy is a specialist Bosch dizzy restorer (mainly VW), but he might have an idea where to find the weights and springs?

I have an early to mid eighties Bosch hall effect (breakerless) distributor lying in the garage doing nothing. It was removed from my 81 Giulietta to fit a 123 distributor. It wasn't the original distributor for the car (should have had points). Understand it came from a later Giulietta (83-84). It's probably very similar to what your after.
I'll try to get a part number of it tonight.

We'll call the dizzy £10.

Just converted £30 to Australian Dollars and comes out at $47.34.
How's about we call it a nice round $50 Australian?

If you have a paypal account then you can send payment to my e-mail address.
Let me know if your happy with cost and I'll PM you the e-mail. You can then PM me an address.

Not sure which engine it came from. Change from points to breakerless done by previous owner.
As far as I knowthe JGFU4 number is the type of distributor and the long number above indicates the curve. If the long number on mine matches the long number on yours, they should be the same.

the JGFU4 is for a 2 litre. As you only need the springs and weights you can just swop the parts to your dizzy that your so-called "Melbourne experts" lost! ....(how stupid was that!?)....the price is very reasonable indeed for the dizzy.

thanks guys, appreciate all this invaluable information. dcystar147, I'd like to go ahead with the purchase, please PM me the details.......
I don't know why those, "experts" removed the springs & weights as I was only having the pick-coil replaced. Not only that, they fitted the drive key at the end of the shaft 180 Degrees out; when I tried to start the engine, all I got was flames shooting out from the carbs!.... This is the reason why Alfa Romeo got such a bad name in Australia; "experts" that have no idea about the car, they just tampered with the cars!
