I have just started up my car after rebuilding the head following the cambelt tentioner breaking.

I have replaced 8 inlet valves and 8 followers (inlet).

But its making a really diesely tappety sound now not unlike the variator, but much louder!?!

Ideas??

I know the valves are hydraulic, so could it be there's no oil getting to them. Wonder if you have to prime them first?? (Don't ask me how, but I seem to remember reading this somewhere).

Panic Over

Its gone now! Must have been lack of oil/oil pressure around the new bits (although I did oil them up well while refiting them).

Phew! Takes a while for the olio to fill in all the little gaps then! Of course, when you do an oil change, the old oil never leaves these spaces completely and is merely diluted with the relatively vast quantities of the fresh stuff. I should imagine new cars all sound like a bag of spanners when they are fired up for the 1st time!
