Looking at buying a 31K 1.9 Ti Saloon, really taken with it. Only just starting my search, and looking for one in grey.

1. Can you advise me please on what to look for/potential problems things to look out for other than paint problems/stone chipping and uneven tyre wear.

2. I also would like to know the rough cost of ownership, understand average combined mpg is around 40mpg, and the tyres are around £250 each, ouch! If anyone could advise me on a rough servicing costs. Insurance and tax seem to be average.

cheers

any car has its regular servicing intervals, spotting characteristics of a potential problem is key too.

just had her serviced today from motormech b'ham, 18k interval service £200 + cambelt/water pump changed £270 but prices may vary from different italian or alfa specialists garages

check steering wheel for juddering while stationary - issue could be a leak or low fluid.
cambelt service is key. think its best done early between 50k to 60k miles or every 5yrs. check all servicing bills, and stamps, MOT certs. air-con should be checked every 3 yrs on any car and be recharged, kwik fit do it for £30

the mpg's is best calculated, my trip computer once said 50mpg avg on motorway at 60 to 65mph but my fuel dial told me a different story but i will attempt to calculate the actual mpg's. after a while once you enjoy being with her you'll easily forget the mpg's and learn to smile when you walk towards her and drive her really hard

Check for rough juddery cruising, noises from steering (rack, pump...), tyre wear, leaks in the passenger side of the boot, rumbling from the gearbox, other than that, just the usual used car stuff

1.9 does 38-43 mpg in my experience, a 2.4 is a lot faster but 30-38 mpg (on a good day!)

Accelera tyres half that price, cambelt service about £500.00 with a waterpump, intermediate services around £200.00 at a specialist - double that for a main dealer.

Paint issues common on red cars, black cars can look a mess at the front and also on the rear arches. Grey hides most of the minor chipping, which is why my first was black - the second grey!

Why you looking for one at 31k???
