Rough idle and blue (I think smoke) on start up

Strong smell of exhaust / diesel fumes as well. I assume this is likely to be serious and expensive?

Edit - its white smoke. Had a mate start and rev her and there's defiantly a lot of white smoke.

Thoughts? What's broken?

I've got something similar, but usually when it fails to start first time cuz i have a dodgy (Halfords, ugh) battery.

Might be worth cleaning out the EGR or running an additive?
