Help!

Just before xmas my parking sensors stopped working on my 2005 model Alfa GT, which it has done a few times in the 2 years of ownership.

The car was due for a replacement undertray (which ripped off and was scrapping on the ground) anyway, I mentioned it to the guys at HR Owen, who siad that the problem was due to corrosion and the "what ever" needs to be cleaned (wire wool) and possible parts replaced.

No problem I thought, until they said it would cost over 100 quid to fix. At this point I thought, you have quoted me £180 to replace the undertray and then another £xxx to resolve the parking sensors/reverse light problem.

So I'm here again asking for help.

Question:
What has corroded to cause such a problem
Can I fix it myself

Please provide pics or a good description should be ok

Thanks in advance

If it's parking sensors and reversing light, wouldn't it just be
the switch? Try a thread search to find out how easy it could be. ;)

Possibly just the reverse switch. On diesel versions, they were a bit tight with the wiring where it goes on to the reverse switch. This means that the wires are too short and stressed, causing them to break due to the vibration of the engine/transmission.

Thanks for your help. I think I saw a thread about cables being too short, I'll have a seach after this reply, but I was a bit confused by what the machanic was saying about there being rust where the reverse light and the parking sensors are connected.

So I was more interested in having a look myself before commiting to spending another ton, so if anyone knows where to look, then I'll be happy to diagnose this problem.

In the thread that I saw previously, people were claiming under their warrenties, is this still the case for an older car which has an extended warrenty like ,mine.

Thanks for your help.
