I'm about to put my 159 SW up for sale

I'd really appreciate some opinions on how much I should advertise it for. It's a Lusso in Stromboli Grey, is exactly 5 years old 2009 (58) with 70k on the clock. Immaculate condition, 12 months mot, dpf cored and remap, spoked wheels not curbed, brand new Bosch battery fitted last week. All the usual Lusso refinements, Blue and Me, black leather in excellent nick. Cam belt and water pump done last year. I'm thinking it has to be worth ÂŁ7000, am I being realistic?

Opinions welcome. Thanks

put your details into westealanycar and see what they offer, then advertise it for about 20% more

On that basis, ÂŁ5310 then

I don't think so. Looking at how few are around I reckon I can do a lot better than that.
+20% = ÂŁ6400.
Sounds about right for a 70k car.
And grey wouldn't be a lot of people's first choice, certainly not mine.

Or does the ÂŁ5310 include the 20%?

Essentially with the resale values coming in so low, I don't know how anyone would consider selling as it is worth keeping as second/third/track car given the returns.

Frankly I am appalled by the value drop on a car that has already depreciated heavily from new.

I guess its just an unpopular car with a terrible track record from the marque.

You say that, but how are prices of similar cars of other marques?

TBH looking at the 159's available it seems the Ti's hold their value way more than their extra spec suggests it should

TT prices seem stronger, at least in the ads on AT. Not much else to compare the Spider against.
Don't know about the 159. There's more competition and a lot more on the roads so that'll play its part on values.

The other car I considered before buying my Brera was the VW Scirocco. (I was not too surprised to find they were both designed by Giugiaro.) The Scirocco holds its value really well.

That included the 20% and hence my comment about being sure I can do much better than that! With regard to the colour comment, the Stromboli grey was my first choice so horses for courses I suppose. I would never in a million years have a black car again, yes they look great when clean but soul destroying trying to keep it clean. The Stromboli is a great colour for the rural roads around here.

WeBuyAnyCar's offer for mine is not too bad - no worse than what I've been offered so far! - Would be sad to sell it that way but it is easy

Should also be able to swap 18" wheels & tyres for someone's 17s + cash as WBAC will be expecting it to have 17s on

This is mine off my car check. Car was almost ÂŁ40k new in Sept 2006 & has every factory extra:wow:

Not much of a difference between trade-in and private sale figures which is surprising.
Whichever way you look at it though, it's still low.

I bought a 2008 2.4 SW TI in black with 90k on it last year for ÂŁ4000 as it needed a clutch and flywheel. It was written off 2 weeks after i bought it and insuarce paid out ÂŁ9000. That was in september. SW's seem to be worth more than the saloons!
Not going to mention waht i paid for my 2010 TI SW Qtronic but i got a very good deal :)

Bought my 2007 2.2 Brera in 2012 with 35k on the clock for ÂŁ7400. Then spent another ÂŁ1700 the same day getting the S alloys with 4 tyres.

As I've commented in other threads on alfaowner, the resale is hit hard by Clarkson & co perpetuating the rumours of unreliability, and the scale of these forums with every last little gripe explored in minute detail. It's a viscious circle. I think trade & private sale will be similar due to "risk" associated with buying an unreliable car privately. I preacticslly fave away my 156 by private sale, but was quite pleased with trade in on Mito. Some of you are talking about quite thirsty petrol cars too - compare with Subarus etc and the depreciation is not that suprising.
