Hi all,

I have a Giulietta with the 6.5" UConnect system. It's okay but we all know that Android Auto is the dream.

I've read about people buying kits from Connects2 but it not quite working and allowing all of the steering wheel controls to work etc.

I found the Alpine upgrade kit that obviously promises to keep everything working, but the alpine systems it recommends are absolutely horrible looking with the row of buttons sticking out of the bottom. They are single-din but double-din screens.

Kit: Alpine KIT-7AR-940 7 inch Installation Kit for Alfa Romeo Giulietta (Type 940) from 2013- and newer

Example Headunits:

It's a long shot, but would I be able to use a single-din 7" screen headunit by another manufacture e.g. Sony/Pioneer alongside the alpine kit?

Otherwise are there are other solutions I could use that would keep the functionality of the steering wheel buttons and car settings etc.? It's quite an expensive solution but if there's nothing better I'll start properly looking into it.

Thanks

Of course, those are just wires. Most probably main connector to the headunit won't fit, as each manufacturer tend to have their own (Alpine and Pioneer may have similar plug, though) - you would have to splice whole harness. Steering wheel controls adapter may have an output specific to Alpine headunits, including output signals - so you may need to adapt it too. Sometimes it's not possible if unit is hardwired.
Here is an example from universal SWC adapter used in my car:

949912
949913

As you can see, there are at least 6 different variants of output harnesses, and some manufacturers use specific input signal formats, so it needs to be adapted to your unit with DIP switches.

There is no special magic to Alpine's harness kit (but it is designed for an Alpine units main connector) - you can buy any universal harness kit (like from Connects2) and make it work, if you wire it correctly.

Hi, I just installed the Alpine KIT-7AR-940 with HU iLX-702D. And it works excellent. Steering wheel controls, car info (time setting, DNA etc) all works. I have a 2014 with Bose option.

Finished result. Looks nice!

It is important to connect the two blue wires that you see above the + gear shifter. That makes the Bose work. If you don't connect those you wont get the bose amp to start which means no sound.
You do not need any other adapters to get the bose to work or to install the HU.
We used the mic connector provided with the HU.

I forgot to mention that usb port also works fine and the parking sensor shows both front and rear in the HU, as well as the original display.there’s just one thing that is a bit annoying, you have to manually turn off the HU (press and hold down Menu btn for a few secs). I guess there might be an easy solution but I have not researched it yet.

I bought a Sony unit some time back and fitted it, no problems as such but I could not get the unit to set the time or any of the other UConnect features, wipers, headlights etc. Steering wheel controls are fine. Did you manage to get all these features working?

Hi, yes all the car settings like clock, trip b etc works So all uconnect features work, as well as sterring wheels control (all), usb and aux etc. I have the factory Bose option which also works fine. Only thing I can't seem to get working is the volume level o Siri. I tried the apss volume settings and also lowering siri on the phone, but no luck. Now Siri os very loud...

Resurrecting this one...
I've finally lost patience with the standard head unit (6.5" Nav unit) and want to upgrade; the maps on my NAV unit are 6+ years out of date and the DAB connectivity is dire.
The only thing stopping me currently is the settings options on the standard unit (time, rain sensors, light sensors etc). Do these options show up on a replacement unit?
