Does anyone know if its a bumper off jobby to remove the headlight casing, I noticed the nearside sidelight bulb was out last night and so decided this morning to have ago using the manual to replace it. This is a nightmare to say the least! anyway the plastic handle/switch has been previously snapped off I reckon, and its almost impossible to grap/push, twist and pull at the same time.
Idea's would be welcome otherwise its an over priced trip to the specialist to replace a tiny bulb:mad:

Cheers

Its the same light unit as the "normal" 156 afaik so you should be able to get a pair of long nose pliers in - I sometime use small mirror to see better but I know folks have used their mobile phones in camera mode to get a better view.

Once out having the sidelights on makes it a bit easier to see to re-insert.

Not sure if you have xenons though

It's doable in situ on the 156, but its a tricky job. Can't offer you advice how, its just a case of keep trying. I used long nose pliers too, which made it easier.

Taking the bumper off is a fairly easy job if I'm honest. Worst comes to the worst you could do that. It's really not that hard.

No need to twist, it just pulls out. A pair of long nose pliers should do the job if the handle is snapped off. The first time I did this job it took forever and I grazed my knuckles in the process. Now I can do it in 2 mins flat

P.S. Don't touch the glass on the new bulb or you will shorten its life.

Mine keep blowing on my 147 and had to replace them a few times over the past couple of years. Whilst it's awkward it is doable in situ. I used to use my iPhones camera but can now do it without with a bit of perseverance. The only tip I can offer is aim it more upwards than you're expecting!

I have a bill in my service history for the bumper to come off to change the sidelight. I believe it's the recommended way, though whether entirely necessary or not, I don't know. It's not a job I'd tackle myself for those reasons.

It's straight forward. I have a 156 with Zenons. First remove the wiring for the main beam bulb, then pull out the main beam bulb and fold back or remove the wire clip. Then carefully wiggle the wires of the connector or the big wing thing. They aren't a tight fit, just sensitive the the angle you pull them out. First time will take s while, after that it's a breeze in situ. You can skin your nuckles, but it doesn't need the bumper off. If the here doesn't rotate, spray a squirt of wd40 on it and come back later. I find a cycle light or mini maglite to get a look is best.

Have fun.

Yeah, sorry I should have mentioned that mine does not have xenons.

I'd like to thank you guys for sharing your experience's etc, seems as though I need a set of long nose pliers and alot of perseverance.
Its just frustrating, I have a disabled right hand which is suseptable to pain and damage and because I'm not left handed dexterity is limited.

I'll let you know how I get on!:)

Cheers S10 GTA:thumbs:

I've known a guy at my local specialist for years through servicing etc, so I might try appealing to his better nature and ask him to do it for nothing seeing as though I'm incapable. Before my disability I'd think nothing about working on a car stripping breaks down or jobs of this nature, but now I can't afford the risk of causing further damage to what is essentially a week hand. Don't get me wrong dudes, I'm not after any sympathy and I'm sure you wouldn't give any:lol: but I do get really agitated when I can't perform the most basic of tasks.

I'm a technical klutz but I have managed to change sidelight and main beam bulbs on a 156 GTA. But it is really fiddly and involves a lot of swearing and getting your hand in really awkward positions so if I were you I would avoid it based on what you have said.

Cheers,

Nigel

Thanks Nigel, I'm gonna give it ago with some long nose pliers first and if this still doesn't work I'll then admit defeat.
