My drivers window switch is locked solid, I need to remove the switch assembly to have a butchers and I read here that I have to lift out the rubber matting in the grip hole to access the screws. Mine won't budge - is it glued, special way of lifting it?

it isn't but a PO may have glued it I suppose

Get a long thin knife or screw driver and carefully insert at the edge and lift up, mine was stuck with dry coffee like substance. Once cleaned it still fits snug but is easier to remove. I removed them from each door, all where dirty underneath.

They can be a bit sticky if not removed before
