Remapped 159 2.4 Failed MOT

As the title says it, had my first MOT this morning since I had the DPF/Remap, etc.. done last year. Failed with flying colours on emissions! (And also needed 2 new rear tyres, but that sort of thing is to be expected).

Limit is apparently 1.5, and it ran an average of 2.6... Guy recommended an injector clean (I passed a bottle of BG244 through it over a year ago), but I'm guessing they don't do the same (i.e. mix with ~1/4 tank or whatever and leave it running for a day!) - It's currently booked it for a look on Thursday.

Not sure how much that will help, but have a feeling the aggressive remap I had done isn't helping :( BHP was up from 208 to 254 after remap, Torque 343 to 460ft/lb...

Just an FYI really for anyone who isn't too bothered about economy when they go for a remap...!

I'll update this later in the week

I getcha!

Is it easy to change the air filter? Bearing in mind I'm a sensible insurance professional with clean finger nails ;)
haha, its not too difficult, but somewhat involved! the under tray needs to come off to get to it from underneath the car. if in doubt get a pro to sort it. Given the grief you have had you may want to go see an alfa specialist with an MOT facility and tell them the bother you have had so they can sort it all before the test.
I think they are on another thread somewhere in the forum
air filter change takes 5 min, did last week.. oil filter is a bit pain
^^^ On a 2.4  You should be working for an F1 team ;)

Ah, cheers I won't be changing the air filter then! No real issues with mine other than a fair bit of chuff at full pelt, but even then I quite enjoy smoking out the odd moped or BMW convertible!

Been using BK244 but might give the Rhino a blast....
My remapped '07 2.4 passed the emissions test with an average of 2.44 yesterday. It has an Alfatune remap with no DPF/EGR valve. I'm half way through the second stage of the '3,2,1' Rhino treatment and I took it for a 10 min blast round the local quite B-Roads before the test.

Using Rhino (or BG244) in the manner described above seems to do the trick - I've had noticeably less smoke since using particularly the Rhino. Can't vouch for other treatment.

Unfortunately though, she failed the MOT on a broken NSF spring - totally snapped and looks like it has been for a while! Strange, handling doesn't seem to have suffered and there isn't any knocking etc.
A fail with those figures on later cars then, really want to do dpf egr etc but am vary wary of issues

Sorry it was on 1.9 but aren't they in the same place ?

Be assured - an Alfatune remap with DPF/EGR delete will pass MOT smoketesting. (assuming the car has no other issues)
Whatever the level of tune...

Wait - 2.44? So the pre-2008 or whatever emissions test has a higher pass figure?

yes. pre registration on 01/07/2008 is 3.00 where as post 01/07/2008 is 1.5 See the notice here: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/198679/Special_Notice_01-11.pdf

Mine is a 3.0 by 2 weeks! so I dont have to worry about passing at 1.5, although I still do.
If in doubt leave the air filter out completely for the MoT then refit after.
Mmmmhhhhh...the tricks you guys use.

My car runs no DPF, no CAT and a 3" tank-barrel exhaust and a 300+bhp Alfatune remap among a few other mods. Mine passed two weeks ago with 0.82 (limit for my 2010 Brera is 1.5)... And the air filter was left in place... :)

A properly running car with a good quality remap will easily pass! No magic potions required...

These are the details&differences between a cheap remap by a 'man with a laptop' and an experienced tuner who knows what he's doing.

Maybe I can just borrow yours and swap the plates...? :D Ahh, a Brera... hmm, they might notice...
Update - When back in this morning for an injector clean and a new air filter... and failed again with similar results.

Not sure if it was just the Citroen C1 courtesy car I had for the day that made it feel a bit more responsive when I got it back, but sure the work didn't do it any harm!

Booked into Sunnyside on Tuesday now (Due a cambelt and waterpump change anyway so I'll kill two birds with one stone).
All the above tricks didn't sort mine . I has massive doses of RHINO through it staying in 4th gear driving VERY hard for 70 miles and it still showed 1.98 best smoke . Angel tweaked the map(at no charge to me and there for 3 hours)to get a pass at 1.49 smoke test.
