Hi folks
Some advice from you brillant tech on my much loved 2.4 JTD. SW

It now has 185,000 miles on the clock and was taken off the road for stopping when hot and starting again when cool - crank sensor.
On examination the filter box cover was broken, the Bosch service readout said new MAF, Hose and sensor. The battery clamp bolt is sheared and generally the engin bay looks it's age. That said, the car has always been a wonderful performer and kept in brilliantly by Ferdi in Lytham-St Anns, until I went to France 2013. Most of the above problems come from local service and the car ha been off the road for the past 9 months. So now I am going "at it" myself though all my experience as a DIY mechanic is pre ECU cars and polution control.

My questions are as follows.
1. As I will be working on certain bits to replace such as Crank Sensor, Filter/MAF/top hose, battery,Are there other items in that area of the car that should be repaired/cleaned/replaced as a matter of course now. (None of the replacement items on this car owe me anything and it has been remarkably reliable).

2. In the Engin bay area generally are there other things I should do now (based on the old rule that if you put new replacement parts in they put a load on older, perhaps tired ones, who could do with retiring at this stage).

at that age i would have a thorough inspection of all of the rubber hoses, coolant and turbo.

other than that it might be a good idea to read the codes or have them read to see if anything rears its head, but TBH if it has previously been serviced on time and there is not a cam belt due I would just do a basic service, oil and filters..

might also be worth having a really good look at the radiator and considering a coolant change if not done for a 3 years or so and perhaps other fluids, gear box oil, steering pump fluid and brake fluid.

fantastic to see one running well with some good miles on the clock!
