i used to work in the motor trade and forte products are highly regarded i put a cleaner in my fuel tank when i got the car and after a couple of tanks i noticed it running much better fixing the slightly rough idle it had,you can buy it off ebay for a tenner,its been a few months since i put it in and its still running sweet

 

I can vouch for this. I have used both redex and forte and i only really noticed a difference with the forte. Good stuff!

 

I tried Millers. Not really sure it did much.
Redex definitley didnt do anything.
but also heard from a mechanic that Forte is well regarded...

 

Not used it yet, but for the 2.4 Jdtm Millers Ecomax is very good. I could feel the difference, put some in my mates 335d and he is a regular user now too

You can get stuff cheaper at halfrauds if you have the card they give to the RAF and the like. The discounts vary but can be very good

 

I've used Millers for months now, and although I don't think there are gains in power/economy, it definitely runs smoother.

The big difference is not using cheap supermarket fuel.

Yep - generally my experience of threads on 'ere is that fairly quickly the likes of Redex get pooh-poohed. Wondered if there was a good reason for smokers to get a better review.

 

I'm guessing the people who are not impressed with the Redex product have only tried the normal variant not the new 'Advanced' stuff?

Well, after reading the website, it certainly talks a good talk. As my 2.4 is currently suffering from most of the problems it describes, it might be worth the investment before looking at a new EGR valve etc.

 

Her indoors fills up with Ultra or Optimax, and sometimes I give it a birthday with Cataclean, but I do wonder if she, we, are chucking money away? Not a great concern really, as we put so few miles on the odometer nowadays.:

 

I think it definitely helps and I can say one thing more of it burns so its cleaner.

I have dpf removal and never see smoke out the back. Go to cheap fuel you'll see more smoke so for me it's worth it.
Everything is smooth etc so I stick with it regardless of cost.

 

Well, after a bit of research, it seems that BG244 stuff is about the best on the market, with rave reviews from all sorts of sites/forums.

I've ordered a can - will report back with my findings...

 

Can came today. Mixed in with 60ish litres of good quality fuel.

I typically do approx 30miles/day so by the end of the week I should (hopefully) have some positive feedback.

 

Yes i agree seems to get decent reviews / feedback from what ive been able to read.
Think i may purchase a can myself as usually chuck in a can forte every 10k or so. £22 inc postage

So how much of this stuff do you get for your money, and how much to you add to your tank each fill up?

 

It's a 325ml can and you chuck the whole lot in to a 60l tank of fuel. That, it claims, should de-coke the whole fuel system, combustion and post-combustion areas. It's a one-shot treatment that should last 10k miles or so.

I didnt get back in time today so will collect it from post office in the morning.

The wife's diesel keeps coming up with intermittent injector errors that suggests they need a good clean and I'd like to see if it removes a little smoke form my DPF removed car...

 

bought a can of the BG244 for diesel from kwik fit today after a lot of reading up from google and will try it out on the weekend when i fill her up. Do 90 miles/day and let you know in a week's time. not after performance increase but just clean out and smooth my engine start up, as its quite jerky. if i notice an improvement then i will use it at least twice a year to clear out the carbon.

 

Was it cheaper than web link i posted? I think the web workwd out at £22

 

Chaps, let us know what effects (if any) you notice form the BG244. I'm especially keen to hear of any improvements - audible, visual or 'driving feel' - to an oil burner.

just a quick update....

i realized kwik fit sold me a BG44K not BG244. the 44K is dual fuel and can be used for petrol or diesel. the only difference is that 244 has extra lubricants in it specifically designed for diesel engines and 44K doesn't have this. went back to kwik fit and they don't stock 244 and say 44K is the same thing. I have just added this 20mins ago and filled her up to full with normal Esso diesel and will see tomorrow after an initial 43 mile run and see what i feel.

My diesel can has arrived. I think i'll add it to half a tank for a concentrated dose

 

I was under the impression that this stuff works better if left to 'soak' into the system over a period of a few days. Therefore adding it to less than the reccommended amount of fuel may not necessarily have a beneficial effect.

It might though, and it could be a good comparison to those that have followed the instructions!
