I have been told that the red 146's fade and as they are lacqered they cannot be brought back. Is this true?
Is it the Alfa (blood) red or the proteo red?
Did they all do it or were the first or last any better.

They do fade and they cannot be repolished due to the laquer.

As far as I am aware this only affected Alfa red cars, not the Proteo metallic although techincally any colour can fade.

It was rumoured the later cars from around 1998 onwards used a different paint formulation, but a Friend of mine has a 2001 156 in Alfa red and that has gone quite pink.

All red cars fade worse than other colours due to the colour pigment reaction to UV light. I have a 96 Red Cloverleaf which is almost a dark magenta colour!
Tried all sorts of polishes and paint restorers..non will work because of the laquer. :(

I know the Phase 2 145/146's were sprayed in 1 coat acrylic which can be cleaned up with a paint restorer/polish like Meguiers or G3 and an orbital polisher. Most valeters can do you whole car for £50-£60.
