The race is on... ;-)

I've not been as thorough cleaning up the frame, I just degreased/scrubbed/jet washed it and was happy enough that it was clean. I don't like to go completely nuts restoring stuff as I like to be able to drive my cars without being scared of making a mess of them!

Getting it all apart was a pain, but I am really enjoying the rebuild. It's a really nice bit of engineering in my humble opinion. Thanks Nellytheroc for the detailed pictures as an additional reference.

All this is procrastinating from cleaning up the underside though!

And yes... I am working in my living room, yes, I live alone and no, I don't know how I am going to get it back out to the garage yet! 😂

Cheers,
Malc.

Nice work… you’re a bit ahead of me but I’ll hopefully catch up a bit as mine only needs moving a couple of yards from the garage to the car. What bushes did you use? They look like Powerflex so any tips on getting them in?
The bushes were done by a previous owner (thank you whoever it was, you saved me £££) and are a mixture of black/purple polyurethane, which I assume must be Powerflex. Easy to install with a bit of bush lube (snigger). I only needed a 10g sachet to do the lot. You aren't that far behind, all the above was a couple of hours work. Nothing is tight yet, as I will do that once it is all weighted up.

Not sure about how I am going to get the springs/hubs on yet. Hoping my spring compressors will fit...

I found the upper wishbones the most difficult to get in... it needs a bit of wiggling and persuasion and trying at different jaunty angles and eventually it slid in with relatively little difficulty. I am reusing older poly bushes though. Bit of bush lube on the outer surfaces will help.

edit: although looking again... yeah, that seems way off. Got the right tubes in there? 🤷‍♂️

hi mate can i ask how you managed to get the subframe in your living room and how you will get it back out. I imagine its not so heavy without any parts attached.
Stripped out in the garage then lugged inside in bits. The frame is (as you can imagine) the heaviest bit, but easily manageable single handed when stripped.

But now it's all together it is so heavy that, I can lift it, but can't really move it. About 50kg at a guess. So I don't think I could get it out without doing my back in and smashing door frames/floors on the way x-D

Should be OK with a second strong pair of hands to help.

Looking good. They must be the MTec discs? I have a pair ready to go the front of my car.

Re: big washers, I am pretty certain the thicker washer goes between the upright and the dog leg. I measured up and worked it all out at the time... I will see if I can find a picture and/or my notes to confirm this for you.
