Last weekend saw me and my long-suffering offspring at Race Retro at Stoneleigh Park.

Lots to see and probably the best opportunity to get up close and personal with proper race hardware that you're likely to get.

It starts in the car park.

I'm guessing that someone had paid all the money for this the day before.

To use Rawlings' pal Dennis' fave expression, it is the holy grail of Escorts.

Much want

20180224_154553 by keith hilton, on Flickr

The 80s called and asked for this back before my daughter had chance to steal it.

There's nothing I like more than a rare and valuable car that looks like it regularly gets the berries thrashed off it.

You know how it is. You turn up in your snort sport Quattro:

20180224_135219 by keith hilton, on Flickr

And some other flash gits turns up to **** on your bonfire.

20180224_135138 by keith hilton, on Flickr

For this chap, this was clearly the final straw.

20180224_135158 by keith hilton, on Flickr

I made a sensible offer of £100 as it's clearly a cut 'n shut but this was declined.

As usual, they have a little rally stage set up.

The noise this made is indescribeable.

Parc Ferme is the best barn you will ever go in.

Crap pic, very pretty car.

20180224_134124 by keith hilton, on Flickr

My dad had one of these, though his was a little more careworn.

20180224_134145 by keith hilton, on Flickr

It's only a ****ing Maxi rally car.

There's something quite surreal about seeing cars that were driven by proper racing legends who are no longer with us.

And so to the halls. Motorsport had a hall of fame on the go with LeMans winning Jags, one of Mario's, One of Colin's, a bit of Rothmans, a bit of Martini and so on.

This looks quite thrown together up close. The composite panels are a bit wobbly.

Lovely pics, brought back memories of traipsing through cold wet muddy Welsh forests in the middle of the night just to catch a glimpse of their lights flashing past.
Makes me go all gooey.
Nearly had a little trouser incident once or twice there.

Final batch from the halls.

First up, Henry Hirise. The cover car from the first ever issue of Street Machine back in the day.

Nice fabricated intake on a little boxer.

ERA looks like a lot of fun. The end of the gearbox casing is about 6" from your clackers too.

Car of the show for me.

Nice big Quattro turbo

Some cars are pretty, some are just on another level.

20180224_125723 by keith hilton, on Flickr

Trevor Farrington from leafy Cheshire had this lovely Elan on display.

20180224_125807 by keith hilton, on Flickr

Another hot 105e with a crossflow

20180224_132433 by keith hilton, on Flickr

Yet another 105e. This time with Mazda 323 turbo oily bits.

20180224_132635 by keith hilton, on Flickr

It appears that young Tom isn't keen on Landcrabs.

20180224_145957 by keith hilton, on Flickr

My dad had one of these too.
