I'm due to test drive a 156 2.4jtd over the weekend and I have a question about spec as it's advertised as a 156 2.4 JTDM 20 valve Veloce. Thing is I didn't think they made the 20 valve engine in 2001 and it's more likely to be the 140bhp 10 valve.

Also, if its the 10V would I be as well going for something like a 2004 1.9jtd as they are around the same performance as the older 2.4's...

Help please - my head's getting sore...

Many thanks

Hi, yes they did make a 20v in 2001 and i think its 150 bhp from memory.

Also if its the 10v and you are thinking of a 1.9JTD 2004 model ..... between the two i would go for the 2004 1.9 JTD but out of them all i would go for the 2.4 engine as i really rate it.

But if you choose the 2.4 2001 model then make sure its been well looked after as ive seen lots of them where there a bit worse for wear as they havent been looked after much and you could be in for a big service bill.

Hope this helps

Thanks all...

is there an obvious way to tell whether it's a 10 or 20 valve - the engine cover doesn't give the game away....

A 2001 will not be 20v.
20v 2.4JTD wasn't used until after the 2003 facelift.

aye, it will be a 10v 140, then they did the interior facelift that was a 10v 150, then the full facelift was the 20v 175;)

and to the D.E.T above:confused: the 20v WAS NOT in the 2001 156;)

+1 a 2001 model was a 10 valve , I had one and was very good but is no where near as good as my 20v 2004 also 2nd the post about being looked after my 10 v cost me a new turbo which was a arm and a leg , then I found out the car had a remap and with the new turbo knocked the clutch out then that was another 700 quid good luck a full history is a must.

Many thanks guys - I think the one I end up going for will be the one with the most comprehensive maintenance evidence. Should be seeing both on Saturday so hopefully one or the other will meet my requirements otherwise it's on with the search!

Cheers
