Hijacking this thread.... could a 1.75tbi be fitted to a 156? How hard compared to a 20v turbo conversion?

The engine bay layout of the 156 / GT and 147 are the same, hence this thread heading mentions all... shape and size of the 1.75 TBi motor is the same as the JTDm and TS motors, so fit should be easier than 20V or at most the same effort.

1750 TBI shouldn't be hard to do at all, same block as a Twinspark or 1.9 JTDM essentially. Physically fitting it that is - getting a 159 or Giulietta engine ECU working in a car without the body computer and all the other wiring might be difficult.

This is absolutely awesome!
Well done!

Its outside my abilities at the minute, but something to consider after I am done supercharging my JTS ;)

Answering to some of the questions here:
- front and rear diffs on the Q4 for both crosswagon and 159 are OPEN
- there is AFAIK only one car in this Universe having a rear LSD on the Q4 : mine. I had to make it from scratch (the existing diff is not modifiable).
- I do not reccomend a front LSD as the rear one induces enough understeering. A second LSD would make the car almost impossible for parking.
- for sports driving I strongly reccomend an Audi with Sports Differential. It's much better than Q4 even with rear LSD.

One more thing, and I do not want to offend people. The rear diff of Alfa Q4 compared to the Audi rear diff is a bad joke, almost 3 times smaller. I would strongly consider any power upgrade on the Q4. Perhaps the 159 is different and could take more punishment.

Hello guys.

I have Alfa Romeo GT and I install TBi engine (940A1000 or 939B1000) to it with Q4 drivetrain from CrossWagon.

I have many skills for it and i can help anybody to do same without problem. Donating to me is allowed, becouse i spend all to Alfa and didnt have money to food :D

Yes, it little hard, but 95% are bolt-on solution.
Jesus mate - when I said last year that you should start a thread on your Q4 conversion I thought you might have told me when you did - I ve only just come across this !

Got any pics of the underneath with the exhaust fitted ?

is it known how much torque the gearbox and the clutch can handle?
the rear diff is a standard open type or a torsen too?
All three diffs are Torsen type.

I think the wiring is going to be the hardest part.
You mean for the TBi conversion ? Cos the 4WD is fully mechanical.

hi!!
sorry to bother but i'm looking for help..
i wrote a post some months ago looking for info about the same topic.

i'm in for a big and beautifull project that i want to start but there is no info to be sure to invest all the money i need to invest on it..

i wanted to buy a busso v6 and fit the q4 system (always on a 156) but as far as i know right now can't be done.. and this is a real shame for me...
cause i'm dreaming on lowered and widened crosswagon with a busso in it that is actually a q4.

i also figure it out that busso block can't fit the gearbox cause the transfer box hit the oil filter and other parts of the block... but there is no picture all over internet to confirm that only people saying this.

look like the q4 gearbox is the same as the busso gearbox.. (as far as my research) but someone here on the forum says is not the same...

there is no picture all over internet about bell housing and transfer box of the q4 to guess if actually will fit a busso engine

for the little i manage to find the oil filter and block on a v6 3.0 looks quite good as far as cleareance for the transfer box... don't know what to think! hope you can help me with your comment.

there is also a big problem about rear suspension that you may know with your experience..
on the internet there is NO picture about rear suspesnion on the crosswagon..
you can buy all kind of coilovers for a standard 156\gta whatever... but there is no coilover\adjustable ride high suspension for crosswagon on the all net!!
There are 2 more threads, including more pics here :

One explains why its not possible with the Busso.

Standard on the crosswagon it is 58% to rear (basically 60%)
Actually its 45:55 front:rear

I think its the design of the 4wd system itself which is a Torsen design, utilising 3 separate diffs. A lot of the Audi stuff just uses 2. I'm pretty sure the diffs are all the conventional open type, not the same type of design as a "Torsen" type diff like a Q2. I dunno, could be wrong here. There was a chap on here I'm sure who had his own limited slip diffs made to fit inside the Alfa Q4 system, that wouldn't have been necessary if they were already Torsen type diffs.

I'm the chap with the rear LSD on the Q4. Front diff is open, rear diff is open. You can see the breakdown of the transmission in EPER, I would not trust any other documentation. It's designed by Graziano Transmisioni.
There is no thing as "Torsen design", there is a Torsen 3 diff that receives force from the gearbox and splits it into the front and rear diffs. The front diff has a separate case and so the rear one. The center and front diff share lubrication with the gearbox.
