Hi All
Well I finally took the leap and just got hold of a 3.0 166 Sportronic with 100 000 on the clock. Full service history and immaculate body with a few niggles to be addressed.
Noisy power steering pump
Slightly blowing centre section of exhaust.
Rear windows stiff.
New warning on air con ICS re: unit needs attn.
I'll start hunting the forums now.
Does anyone know a good Alfa dealer west of London Teddington way?
M + S Autos were recommended! I don't have the time nowadays.
Thanks

Hi Doug, welcome to AO. :)

100,000 miles eh? That V6 should be just starting to loosen up nicely then. :D

Hiya

Well done on the new 166! I am sure it will give you lots of pleasure, and like anything as beautiful as that, some heartache too.

I am sure you don't need me to teach granny ....etc, but a couple of points to reinforce that others will no doubt do likewise.

First - oil. The V6 3 litre is designed to spend oil (approx 1 litre per 1000 miles). If it doesn't, beware. The AR recommended oil in UK is Selenia 20K - do not under any circumstances detract from this, even if the specification for an alternative looks the same. My own heartache in this matter is another story!

Second - this site is full of little oddities about the 166: it's part of the charm. (Can ANYONE tell me how to get my central locking working? Pleeeease!). Cam belt stories are numerous, and relevant.

Finally - I had occasion to deal with Thorobred Motors in Laleham, Nr Staines. They were very good. They are AR specialists but strictly independent. 01784 451195. I don't know how accessible they are to you, but definitely worth a call.

All the best - hope this has been of help

Hi Jerry
That's very kind for all the essential information, especially as I'm driving to Italy next month and will keep a stock of the oil in the boot.
I'll track down Thorobred Motors and check them.
No doubt AO will keep me going for a while yet.
Just getting my head around it at the moment.
Have a good year

Doug
