Hi all, just bought an 07 159 jtdm and having some issues with it.
Got it from a dealer with a 2 year warranty but am thinking I will take it back.
Does anyone know where I would stand legally?
There is hardly any power in low gears unless I rev the hell out of it to set off. Seems to pull OK on the motorway but there is definitely an issue. I phoned the garage I got it from and he said it would be a fuel blockage but I've just done 100 miles and it is definitely not.

From what I have seen here it could be the egr valve?

There was glow light warning the first time I turned it on but I put that down to the engine not being used much during being in the showroom.

Gutted about this, have been saving for a long time to get a 159 after my old 156 was written off and it looks as though I have been sold a stinker!

The thing about the egr valve was that the guy at the garage said the main issue with these is that but it is covered under my warranty?

I like the car and would like to keep it if it can be sorted but I don't see why the warranty company should pay for a fault that was already on the car.

Also the service history has been completed at 18000, 37000 and 60000 miles. Is this not outside the manufacturer's recommended intervals so would probably void the warranty anyway?

Aaargghhh! Nightmare! I was so happy to have an alfa again too!!!!!

Its got 1 problem, why get rid of it? And does it matter who picks up the bill, as long as its not you
Get them to sort it and then enjoy the car, it will probably give years of "trouble free-ish" service after that

Cheers for the reply guys.

I guess I could go through the warranty. I think they will have a few questions to ask seeing as I only bought it today though. Just very angry that I have been duped into buying a car with an existing fault from a dealer that seemed genuine at the time. I have phoned him up and unsurprisingly he is not willing to refund my money.

Is the general consensus that it will be the EGR valve? If so would there not be some kind of warning light?

So long as the warranty will pay up I suppose it is the way to go. If not then I will have to give trading standards a call and see where I stand legally. I have a copy of the advert that describes it as 'totally immaculate' which it would seem not to be.

Hopefully I can get it sorted and have a lot of fun with it.

I didn't drive it.

I had driven another the day before and he said he was extremely busy which I could see he was. I turned the engine on and there were no warning lights and it sounded healthy and revved fine plus I assumed that being warranted there could be no issues.

Yes I am stupid.

Get the feeling from your words that it's not a Franchised Alfa Dealer?
How did you guess?

I have spoke to the warranty people who said as it is an inherent fault it is not covered (No surprise). Phoned trading standards who said I am liable for repair or refund so I phoned the garage back. Coincidently the manager who sold it me was on holiday but they have told me to get it fixed and send them the bill. They told me I shouldn't have told the warranty people I bought it with the fault and they would have got it done but I'm not committing fraud to save them a bob or two!
They are speaking to the warranty rep about claiming it through that but otherwise they will have to pay me themselves, I'm sure that will be a fun process. I have recorded the phone calls as evidence.

It's booked in on Monday. So fingers crossed it's the EGR and will be sorted quickly.

Thanks again for your advice guys.
