Hi girls & boys,

My 'zorst is sounding rather rattly - more-so when reversing into the garage and when moving off from a standstill.

I reckon the baffles are fcuk'd, the question is - what is the average lifespan of powerflow catback box... i think mine has been on since 2001/2002 but don't quote me.

If it's shot, which box is best for raspyness/sound?

thanks

Powerflow's are guaranteed for as long as you own the car.
I assume that means they should last for life as opposed to them breaking every 3/4 years and Powerflow relying on people selling the car on before then...

I guess you didn't have it fitted then. Are you sure it's a rattle from inside the box and not the exhaust rattling against the body somewhere cos a mount needs replacing?

Unfortunately in oprder for the guarantee not to be voided you have to have it inspected once a year. Which reminds me, I need to book mine in...

Try REMUS EXHAUST SYSTEMS. It might help you.

Thanks MT, Bazza - Welcome to AO Wolff and thanks for your suggestion.

Hmm MT, I'll need to take a closer look - I do hope you're right...

And yes again I didn't have it fitted, only had her since Feb this year!

As for the annual check, I had one fitted to my E30 by Sound & Styles (crap firm btw) and was never told about no inspection. . . s'pose it doesn't matter now thats gone.

Hello Wrinx, I was wondering did you put a powerflow on your V6 as mentioned, as i was wondering which way to go with mine, ie remus, superprint, powerflow. Did you also loose some boxes and was the quality up to expectation?. I understand from powerflow its around 300 quid cat back.

thanks

Hi Andy

Yes I had it fitted, £300 all in from after the cat to the back.

First time doing a V6 by the guy who did mine, not surprising when you consider there are only a few in the UK ;). First go he didn't put a large enough back box on the car and it was deafening....I'd get out with tinnitus! I've lost the funny little triangular box near the rear wheel, most people get rid of this one.

Second attempt andits perfect :D Nice burble and a little overun noise too....no charge for redoing it.

Quality, well the welding is ok, but not great (I used to do lots of welding!)....the quality of the system will really depend on who does it and how careful they are....it is handbuilt after all.

I would suggest you go with a recommended fitter just to be safe....but I'm happy with mine, when you cosider a new mild steel system is guaranteed for 2yrs and will costs about £175.

I have a mate who had a Powerflow system fitted to his Escort. A few weeks later when re-fitting his cat for the mot he noticed it was blowing at one of the welds. he wasn't too impressed. The garage did fix it free of charge though - as they should! I guess it depends very much on the garage that fits it.

I will need a new exhaust for my GTV soon as it's started blowing, it has a 2in long split in the pipe just before it goes into the middle box. I could weld it up but it seems a good excuse to fit a nice sounding performance syatem!

I'm not sure about a powerflow. I drove past my nearest powerflow fitter and it was a boy racer place full of Saxo's, Corsa's etc with aeroplane wings, silver windows (why would you do that??) and huge mesh intakes for their, erm, intercoolers on their 1.1 engines!

I'm very fussy about who I trust with my car so I don't fancy taking it there. Besides, manufacturers spend lots of money on development, ensuring that silencers, tube sizes, bends etc give the best performance. Do the powerflow fitters know what they're doing? A poorly designed exhaust can actually reduce power. By the look of it this place concentrates more on what sounds the most boy-racerish and how many tailpipes they can fit across the back of the car. I think nearly every car there had four tailpipes!

Am I just being far too sceptical as usual?!

I think I might go for the mild steel Supersprint system. It costs more, it will eventually rust, but it won't fall apart and I know it will be well built. Plus I can fit it myself.

Any comments??

Powerflow is a franchise operation, so it can definitely depend on the particular branch you go to.
If they look dodgy to your eyes, don't go there.

Its a powerflow on my 146ti.

Only good things about them is getting a perfect fitting tail pipe and a fantastic sound, but the pipes really are rubbish.

Mines been on nearly 2 years and still ok but hope it lasts as its never been inspected since!!!

Hi Wrinx i managed to get a SS Remus cat back from Elite in essex at the bargin price of £132 including delievery, my exhaust actually dropped completly at the weekend just off the M25 cracked off from the induction end of the triangular backbox. You mentioned that most people dont actually bother replacing this end box, which I guess is what ive just ordered from Elite. This is where im slightly confused, I was under the impression that the middle box was the cat. So if that's not the case, does it mean what ive ordered from Elite (cat back) misses out the middle silencer or includes it?

I also found it incredibly loud without that end box so how have powerflow reduced that?, what would be really cool if members could post images of their replacement exhaust tailpipes with exhaust note noise as they do on the Remus web site.

The cat is the box just below the gear lever area...funny shaped triangular box at the back (before the backbox) is just some kind of resonator.

The box you have ordered may include it...or it may not  I would guess the funny shaped triangular box is missing but the rest are there (after the cat).
