Hi All

Power steering has gone heavy and noisy - checked fluid and its lost quite a bit.

I suspect a split hose - its had a hose previously because apparantly it was rubbing on the gearbox....so it was replaced and re-routed

anyway had a new clutch and i suspect that the pipe has been rubbing again - been put back in old position?

The question is - is it ok to drive 5 miles to garage with low steering fluid???
Also anyone know of this fault with pipe rubbing on 156 2.4 jtd 20v?

Thanks in advance....

Well because i haven't got any fluid and live in a village with nowhere to buy it from! Got every other fluid at home except that - typical!

Hi, I wouldnt drive it or you will wreck the pump, pas fluid is the same as auto box oil, red in colour.
The favourite place for them to leak is where the metal pipe runs across the car under the radiator

Hi, no they are not...there are different types of fluids...check the manual for the correct type for the 20V

EDIT: You need Dextron II type of fluid

Many thanks for your advice - I appreciate it..

It needed 3/4 litre of fluid before the noise stopped - and now got it to the garage ok - so should be fixed soon.

Thanks again (probably avoided more damage!)
