Hi there. I am a 64 year old retired Civil Engineer and at present drive a Xsara VTS which is 9 years old and is starting to present reliability issues. I have looked around at replacements with similar performance and top of the list, according to my heart, is the Giulietta. However according to my head a more sensible (ie cheaper) solution is to get a Skoda Octavia (shame I know and I am trying hard not to listen).

However I have a couple of question one of which is technical which I will post in the appropriate area but the other is more general.

For my sins I live in Scunthorpe in North Lincolnshire and wondered what Lincolnshire based owners do about Dealer support. According to the Alfa website dealer locator, between Peterborough and Teesside there is only one dealer, Stoneacre at Doncaster and they are service only. For me the nearest sales dealership is either Sheffield or Chesterfield which are both a 100 mile round trip and services would involve a near 50 miles and perhaps, more importantly, having to hang around on the outskirts of Doncaster:rolleyes: while the service is carried out.

It seems that Alfa UK have almost abandoned Lincolnshire and East/North Yorkshire.

Should I let this influence a decision to buy a Giulietta?

Hi Tony, thanks for joining in on here and a warm welcome from the Lincs Mob !!!

As Stu says Post in the Lincs Lounge for Dealer info. I know that Martin who lives in Sunny Scunny uses Picaddilly in Yorkshire, reckons it's worth the trip. The other " Local " main dealers I know nothing about, I'm more into the older Alfas. However we have at least two very good local independents which come highly recommended. Post a Thread in the Lincs Lounge and you'll get some answers which shouldn't put you off taking the leap into Alfa ownership.

Anyway....

We are quite an active little group here so it would be very nice to see you in the Lincs Lounge and at some of our Meets soon. Lots of these coming up, some great ones planned, even in the Winter Months.

Our next Lincs Meet is an afternoon/evening one coming up on 29th December and is a Meet you really should come to. Do come along if you can. Don't worry if you don't turn up in an Alfa. It’s our annual masochists trip to the Seaside where we meet up, stroll around Skeggie, have chips, get freezing cold and then head for a nice hostelry to warm up, eat, drink and chat. Clears the head after the excesses of Christmas and should not be missed ! Follow the Link for the full details.

Our “ regular “ Meets are usually ( but not always ) on a Thursday evening and are scattered around the County and these are interspersed with our “ special “ Meets throughout Spring, Summer and Autumn. In the Winter I tend to go for Saturday afternoon or Sunday Breakfast Meets, the Saturday afternoon Scalextric Championship, amongst others, is a great afternoon out. We have a lot of Events coming up again during this year, some of them are just Beer and Chat type things but a lot of very special ones too, we don’t get bored here in the Flatlands. Keep an eye on the Lincs Lounge for full details. Here is the next evening Meet :-

You might want to add your details on to the “ Names, Locations and Cars “ Thread too, I generally don’t do this unless people “ask “ in there, don’t wish to give away any secrets !

Follow the Links to see what is going on and join in, I can pretty much say that you won't regret it. Apart from myself everyone else in the Lincs Section are very nice people.........

From the Lincs Lounge also follow Links and see what we have been up to in the past, some cracking Meets and some great pictures.

Don't forget to look at the " Stickies " right on top of the Lincs Lounge page.

Cheers,

Nige.

Hi Nige,

Thanks for the welcome. I have copied and reposted my message in the Lincolnshire forum as you suggested. We have family visiting between Christmas and New Year so I don't think I would be popular if I ducked out to go for a stroll at Skeggie but thanks for the invite anyway. Perhaps another time. I will keep an eye on the meets notices.

Ah but I couldn't miss the Grandsons (twins).:) Their parents and Aunt and Uncles I had to live with many years ago and know what they're like but the boys are different. Great thing about grandchildren is someone else has to tell them off for misbehaving and if it gets all to much the parents take them home.;)
