Hello all,

Just had cambelt etc replaced. New thermostat, temperature sensor etc.

Driving home tonight it felt like hitting a wall at 4-5k revs the red light by temperature guage came on briefly and then seemed ok. It then did it again when accelerating. No engine lights etc came on. Temperatures all correct. Could this be a MAF issue? Or have you any other ideas please. Just had new plugs fitted as well. Thanks

Think they all like to push our patience a bit!!

Not sure what your problem is but from what I have read on here if you unplug the MAF and it runs ok then that's your problem

Sounds like a MAF issue, mine is the same. Make sure you have the right air filter fitted. The first 'specialist' mine went too put the 2lt air filter in in when the 3lt is bigger. The MAF started playing up within 5 miles.

Took the opportunity to take maf off today - eventually after shearing nut off the clamps holding it to the air filter housing. Drilled out old stud and replaced with new nut and bolt. Took the air filter out and it turns out this is the wrong one just as stated in the post above. Ordered new filter from alfaworkshop and gonna try maf from autolusso and see if that helps matters. Took off the hoses etc to obtain better access and it looks like the butterfly throttle valve has been wiped clean at some point - I am hoping this has been done properly as I have read if not it can cause damage. The throttle response does seem hit and miss sometimes. What do you think ?

It still amazes me how many cretins can't fit the right air filter. The butterfly valve is out of league though. Why don't you ask the question to Lawrence who you will see on here under the name Autolusso South

Plenty of motor factors hold the wrong information on their databases for what air filters should be fitted on GTVs. So someone who doesn't know the cars or the problems would just drop it in and put the lid back on.

Oh yes. They also snapped several studs on the exhaust manifold as well. Currently it is with Autolusso in Bournemouth. Communication and knowledge has been excellent so far. I am picking it up again this week and I hope all will be well.

Good luck with that. I fitted a new (used from Autolusso) maf sensor and a new oem air filter (v6 one this time)..Took it for a spin and it did the lurch thing at 5000 ish revs and temperature red light came on briefly again. Did it twice. any other ideas please??

Don't quote me but normally MAF issues don't trigger the red light as the car actually thinks it is delivering the correct fuel/air mix, when actually it is delivering it lean hence the stuttering. I had this stuttering stuff before on my wife's StreetKA and it had one duff HT lead. You might want to have the fault code read to find out what is actually going on.

Have you disconnected the MAF and tried it again, as you might be unlucky and have a dead new (used) MAF

Thanks. What does trigger the red temperature light? Just been out for a spirited run. Car is flying but it happened again when I put my foot down in second gear. Crank sensor?

Red temperature light is excessive temperature.. Although if you have a dodgy connection to the temp sender on the thermostat housing that may do it, also the temp sender does have an affect on fuelling.

Interesting. I have changed the sensor itself. I will have to check wiring and connector next. The coolant temperatures appear to be bang on and fans kick in etc so no overheating. Thank you for sending the maf so quickly! I am glad I did not pay out for a new one if it is not at fault!
