Hi guys posting on behalf of a friend ,
He has a 1,9 jtdm , hes problem is when he comes to his car in the morning jumps in waits for a few seconds then presses the start button , and it can turn over and over and over for like 10-15 seconds beofre starting , Its had new Glowflugs fitted ( by the last owner ) Angelo ( the new owner ) has just fittted a new Glow plug ecu box and that hasnt helped ,

what would you guys suggest ?

My 159 can be a bit slow to start, so I asked my guy to check the glow plugs while he was in there; apparently 3 of them are the wrong length, being .5" shorter, so that diesel nevers gets warmed. the NGK site says they're correct, but it seems they're not. Might be worth pulling them out and checking the length.
I'd be more inclined to check the battery; the voltage could well be fine, but the CCA (cold charging amps) could be too low; my ki car had a faancy racing battery, that was consistently 12.6V, but only measure 16CCA (it's rated to 300), because it has been left on a shelf too long. It's been mothballed and a new battery expensively bought.
I replaced my 159's battery a few months ago, and the issue was significantly reduced.

Even with no glow plugs (fuse had gone) mine started promptly.
What's his power like? Does the car feel sluggish?
But good starting place is the battery either way.

Well guys , The problem has been found, he took it to a garage
Just wait ,,, the problem was ..
it seemed as if it had a previous cam belt fail and bodged back togeher sooo
2 compleatly destroyed valves
4 bent valves
1 slightly bent valves
2 cracked valve guides
surface damage to 2 pistons


Sop new head time and 15 + hours of labour to fix it and its hopefully back tomoz
but the thing that had me 100% stumped ,, was how good it ran once it started ,,
hes due to get the car back tomorrow so he be back to loving the car again
