:(:(Ok so here goes,

A few months ago, thermostat went and presure built up and blew out the water pipe, all the water & caused a leak in the radiator. I was in peak hour trafffic, car switched off but managed to get her started again and drove without water for about 6km's (engine smoking, etc)....with heat guage doing ups & downs...until I reached home where she died...she started up later and drove up the ramp of the tow truck to go to the mechanic.
Mechanic checked her through, replaced the damaged bits and was surprised there wasnt much else damage done.
So I pick her up and off I drive.....Only to discover that now there was a (engine) vibration only when I accelarate...A few days later, the vibration was joined with the oil light coming on/flickering only during accelaration.
Took her back to the mechanic and after going deep, found the crank was cracked so that was repalced together with the bearings, oil pump, overhauled the cylinder heads, replaced seals, rings and a CV boot.
I have been running her in for the last two weeks never accelarating further than 3000 revs for 500km's and is due to go back to mechanic for a "retourque" and then followed by further running in...However, she never felt right with a subtle vibration present when accelarating.
Yesterday in peak traffic the heat guage goes just a bit past the centre line where the fans kick in to cool the engine.....after about a half hour of this, I noticed the oil light began to flicker when accelarating only.....
This morning all was fine until the heat guage reaches the same point and the oil light begans to flicker....

Anybody have any idea as to what is going on????
She is due to go back to the mechanic but he also seemed uncertain on the phone what could be wrong....Please help...

Oil contamination?

were the oil cooler & pipes preferably changed or thoroughly cleaned out?

I had a my 1st V6 GTV break a crank(I bought the car with a very slight tapping sound from the engine...SIX hard miles later it went:(). It had recently had a replacement crank due to a cracked sump a short time earlier. I had a low mileage engine fitted, 500 miles later EXACTLY the same symptoms...caused we think due to swarf still in the oil cooler.....even though the mechanic says he cleaned it the best he could.

So that's 3 cranks 'blown' due to first cracked sump & loss of oil but the next 2 must be due to contaminated oil deposits left over from the 1st crank.

I'll be fitting a new oil cooler when the next engine goes in.

I hope you've not got the same problem?

Thanks CG
Mechanic assured me that all the lines, etc were cleaned thoroughly and new oil pump fitted....so still guessing on this...any idea on the cause of the vibration?
The mechanic assured me that the oil lines(& oil cooler) were cleaned thoroughly but an oil cooler is hard to clean 100%. So I think, due to your oil light, probably mains.
