Found under the bonnet of my new 147 Ducati Corse...

I think it's one of those 'tuning boxes' - am I on the money there? Appears to be wired into the engine loom. Any idea what brand it is and how it works?

Am I best to get rid?

I work on calibration/tuning of Diesel engine electronic control systems for bus, truck, machine applications...if this does what I think it does, i.e. Screwing around with either the rail pressure feedback signal to ECU, or with the sensor(s) for determining mass air flow at the inlet manifold...then, err, not sure I want that going on personally. I do have some concern for the polar bears.

Either a tuning box, or a HID ballast... Given it' position tucked up under the top hose there I'd guess tuning box..

Where do the cables from it go? One into the engine loom and one into the fuel pressure sensor in the rail?

Easy enough to pull off and see what happens!

thats the tuning box, connects to common rail, just follow down the cables to make sure it is connected and swap the connector with the original one and job done
