Phase 2 V6 Airbag Light/VAGCOM/ECUScan Question

I've done numberous searches on this and found several threads, but none that give me the exact answer I'm looking for, or at least not in a language I understand!

Firstly, my airbag light is on. This was for a pretensioner fault I got diagnosed previously. Now I sorted the fault, but the light was still on, so I assumed this needed to be reset.

After looking it up on here, I could pick up this lead and download ECUScan for less than it would cost to plug into someone else diagsnostic device and reset everything. Then my MAF failed, which again I replaced, but this left the engine managment light on the dashboard.

I ordered a lead and downloaded ECUScan, not a problem, but when the lead came it didn't have the switch on it, which most people describe. Instead I got the main lead, which looks the same as all of them, just without the switch and a 3-Pin adaptor with a crocodile clip attached on a separate wire.

Now I'm guessing to access the engine ECU, all I need to do is connect to the OBD Port by the fusebox?

But as for the airbag, do I need to use the 3-pin adaptor and plug directly into the airbag ECU, or is that just for Phase 1's? Do I also access the airbag through the main 16-pin OBD port? If so I've read some soldering is required?

Anyone clued up on this?

Cheers

Mike

Basically you need to swap 2 pins over in the car end of the cable. This is what the switch on some models do.

I looked at adding a switch to my cable but decided it would be a bit bodgy. Instead I bought a short OBDII extension lead, cut it and swapped the 2 wires in that. So I can use my original cable on it's own for the ECU and connect it with the extension lead for the Airbag.

I think it was pins 3 & 7 that needed to be swapped but check that before you cut into anything.

Not quite correct. You don't swap pins.

This is how it works: You communicate with the different ECUs using the K-line. K-line is located on pin 7 on a standard interface. On the OBD connector in your car pin 7 is only connected to the engine ECU. If you wan't to communicate with other ECUs such as airbag or ABS, you need to bridge pin 7 (K-line) to the pin that corresponds to that ECU. Preferrably you do this on the interface side, and not on the car side.

Pin ECU
1 ABS
3 Airbag
7 Engine
8 Drive away protection
9 HVAC
11 Anti-Theft device

You can connect all pins to pin 7 since the ECUs have different adresses, but some people like a switch at least for the airbag for extra safety if you are doing diagnoses while driving.

I modified my 409.1 interface according to the picture.

I have the airbag light issue.

I bought a cable with the moveable switches. Downloaded the alfadiag software.

I've successfully used similar software for my Saab and previous Vauxhall without problem, but couldn't 'talk' to my Alfa. I'm using a Windows XP Netbook, COM4

So is there a step by step guide? Or is anyone adept at fixing this issue at a Swindon Meet?

Thanks.
