Hi have been noticing a faint whiff of something in my giulietta ma occasionally but was too quick to tell what it was, a few weeks back I got a fairly strong smell of petrol and put it down to the car in front as it faded after he pulled away. Had the same thing happen yesterday and now think its mine. Was on a long journey and didnt smell anything then came to a stop in traffic and it was quite strong again, it faded when I got moving, isn't always there but the heater is always on when I have noticed it.

assuming I have a leak somewhere and Will obviously be getting it looked at but from what I describe where is it likely to be coming from? Is there a known weakness on giuliettas in this area and is there anything else I can try to narrow it down for the mechanic?

Thanks

Can't say I have ever noticed it outside the car or under the bonnet

Booked in for Wednesday, said will check the system but its possibly the charcoal filter. Where is that on a giulietta and is it a big job if it does turn out to be that?

Should be easy. I think it is located inside the drivers front wing.

Ok thanks. When I got home I lwft the engine running and heater on, opened the bonnet and looked/smelt around, couldn't find anything but when I got back in the car smell really hit me, does seem worse when stationary especially after a drive

I had this happen to me on my MA, when i took it to the dealer they found a leak between the turbo and catalytic converter, they fitted a new gasket amd clamp and this solved the problem.

Have a look there....

With the turbo being involved did that mean an oil change? I am taking it somewhere local as I can get it seen to sooner as my specialist is a bit of a journey. A good garage but I doubt they will know the importance of the particular grade oil the ma needs?

When the exhaust manifold cracked on my Fiat Coupe it smelled of fuel inside the cabin through the heater.

Exactly... You should have a wine nose to identify the kind of smell...
Petrol smell is hardest one to penetrate nose through air vents.
If it is really petrol I would suggest to open the bonnet and shake all petrol pipes. Sure you will see the leakage...
You should do it with cold engine idling with no smoke guys nearby...
For 22JTS I know exact clamp which is faulty, for Giu I do not yet.

You have me doubting now I'm pretty sure its petrol. Is there anything related that could mean an oil change will be needed?

I wouldn't think that an oil change would be needed for anything to do with Petrol/exhaust leaks.

Been in today typically didn't smell on way there and didn't when they took it for a drive. Also no evidence of any leaks.

Not sure where that leaves me now, good that there is no leaks but must be something causing it
