I'm very happy with my Giulietta so far, the only issue I've been having is that sometimes (not always) the passenger side front door will not open from the outside. When this happens I have to open the passenger side door using the handle on the inside. Anyone else experiencing the same issue?

I've looked briefly in the user manual and there is some information about how to lock the front door when the battery is flat, but my battery has never been flat (at least not since I got it from the dealer).

The car does have a feature called unlock front door only, have you checked the menu to see if its on? Its to stop a potential hijacker from hopping in your passenger seat when you unlock the car. If it is on you just need to press the unlock button twice to unlock the rest of the car.
If thats not the case then its an electronic gremlin, and a visit to the dealership...

I think I'll be calling the dealer because it's not happening every time so if it is the anti-hijacking feature then that is not working correctly either. Anyway, when it happens it doesn't help to unlock, lock, unlock or whatever with the remote key. Back doors seems to be fine.

Of course the dealer could not reproduce the issue. They changed some antenna wiring (presumably for the central locking) which is supposed to help. I have my doubts, but I'll give it a go and see how it works out.

Experienced the issue with the door again today. By a stroke of luck I was close to my dealer so I brought it in and showed it to a technician so that they would believe me and not think I was some kind of idiot who couldn't operate the locking system. Booked it in for early November. Hopefully they can sort it this time.

Does it occur when you first get into the car, or only after you've driven it a bit?
When I first get into it. I'll have her parked somewhere, unlock using remote and all doors unlock except the front passenger side door. It does not help to lock and then unlock either. I have to open the door from the inside. Of course it doesn't happen every time (and I won't always notice because I don't need to open that door every time I take her for a spin).

I'm taking her in to the dealer today. Of course there has been no problems with the door the last couple of weeks, but this was already booked. Not overly confident they will find or fix anything..

I think I had this today but with the drivers door handle.

It's felt a bit odd for a while. When you pull the (exterior) handle sometimes you can feel like a bump halfway through its travel and for a millisecond it feels like the door latch isn't going to release.. but then it does.

Today, door wouldn't open. The door handle was 'floppy' like it was still locked.
Opened passenger door fine.. reached over and opened drivers door from inside. No problem.
Tried again a few times.. same issue.

Drove to work in a mood thinking I'd have to visit the dealers again.

Gets to work. Gets out. Tries it again.. and its fine now.

The locking mechanisim might just have a little bit of water inside it which may have frozen.
It was a little bit chilly last night ;)
The warmth in the car would most likely have then defrosted it for when you get to work.

I've had this happen the last three mornings - after it's warmed up for an hour or so, you can use the key to manually unlock it and that solves it. Otherwise wait another hour or two and it thaws by itself. Ever so slightly embarrassing accessing your pride and joy via the passenger door though, particularly in a supermarket car park!

This, and my constantly squealing brakes, are trying to make me dislike this car (but failing!). Time for another trip to the garage I think...

I still have the original issue from time to time. For me, it has nothing to do with freezing as it has been like this since the car was new in August and I'm usually parked in a heated garage.

You might be right about the freezing.

It was fine last night when I went home.
Got up this morning ( -2.5°C) and same problem again.
Leant over from passenger side and opened it so it was 'on the latch' ie: slightly ajar but the latch still keeping it closed. Walked around and the floppy door handle still wouldn't release the latch. So it seems to be something stopping the pull handle from working the release mechanism.

Considering the temperature and the fact that the passenger door hasn't got a keyhole.. and works fine, I figured out its probably water getting in through the keyhole and freezing the gubbins inside.

Would WD40 solve it?

No. WD40 is a cleaner not lubricator.
What you need to get is a car lock defroster/lube. If your locks are frozen you stick it in the key whole and spray a small amount in which defrosts any frost and lubricates the lock. It should also be used regularly regardless of having any problems say once a week during the colder seasons to prevent the problems from occurring in the first place.

I can't believe this problem is so common in Giuliettas which is obviously been an issue all the way from the 146!

WD40 is a Water Dispersant (version 40 of the chemical trial was the one that worked, hence the name).
If the issue is water getting in and freezing, then something to disperse the water would be a good idea.

Had my car imterim serviced today since it's 1 year old. To fix this annoying lock problem I also had them replace the lock case (unsure about the translation) inside the door under warranty. Hopefully that will fix this issue properly.

As an afterthought, consider Norwegian prices when paying £275 for an oil change (including oil), oil filter and pollen filter and a quick diagnostic.
