Hey everyone Today while driving in B'ham , again the S/S unavailable comes up, however after clearing it and driving few miles, the ENGINE COOLANT HIGH TEMPERATURE message shows up with oil temperature went up to 5 n, i stopped checked the coolant level ,was ok, the FAN was running on high speed and A/C was blowing hot air 🥲,and a code of P2BC1, P2BC61... i checked on American forum, someone had the same ,he sorted it out by replacing battery from 80Ah to 95 Ah ?
- Any suggestions please

I am not sure if these codes will be cured by replacing the battery which may have been incidental. If you have a coolant code, did you also check the radiator for leaks and check for any pooling underneath the car? Also check the other coolant tank (intercooler assuming you are driving a 2.0 petrol engine). Engine oil temperature should max about mid point or 4 bars. There are some solenoid valves which control the coolant flow, perhaps it is suggesting a malfunction?

Thank you for your reply, yes i checked both tanks and radiator, no leak at all, the codes came up only after S/S UNAVAILABLE message shows up.... Do you have a picture of those selenoid valves please ?

SS unavailable is a common warning when the ECU registered any CEL codes. DNA mode functionality will also revert to N mode only. This is all normal behaviour in the event of a fault. Is your car not under warranty?

Here is the cooling system description attached. The pdf is too large so I have attached screen shots.

It could still be a software update issue which means a visit to the dealer.

First time I have heard anyone say there is a risk of ECU failure with a software update using official Witech tool unless it means they have to circumvent the Alfa system to install the update and it could crash the ECU. I think it is unlikely though.

What remap do you have? With any software updates losing the remap is a given. Most tuners will apply the map again for free or even a small charge. Best bet would be to take it to a dealer or try another independent.

There's always a risk, even using official software. Probably more so. The first thing that's done is erasing the old software so from then on until the procedure is completed succesfully there's a risk. Had it happen once on a customer car, though we later managed to force software on it manually. Not that same day though.

Thank you guys for the answers, i took it to cloverleaf garage for a replacement fuel pump, fortunately under warranty(used car warranty) ,the car since drive like a dream and all the codes desepear..p.s the fuel pump was noisy and sound like buzz.(few owners had the same issue, again alfa didn't bother with a recall. I've been told it make a pressure on the engine and during hot days it make it even hotter... Will see the next few days and keep you update..thanks again

Update: so i took the car to NJS for a software update as recommended here, they made 6 updates including the stuck control valve update, but 1 day after driving it, the engine check icon is back...with same codes.+p00b7 code.. Now iam losing my temper with it...any other suggestions please

The new code P00B7 appears to be related to coolant flow. Have they removed all air from the system while filling? You need to take it back to the garage who did the work as the same codes are back. Did they check the main coolant and charge air coolant temperature control valves/solenoids?

Hey its me again, so there was a software update, and i places a new 95 ah battery , the engine check was gone for almost 30 miles, i plugged obd and kept an eye on the coolant temperature, it was between 100 degrees down to 90 when driving in motorway, down to 75 degrees when parked with engine on, the fan didnt stop at all, and pipes were hot and feels full of air...... i want to take off the pump and check it..but i need some balls to do that n😅😅

Much more likely to be an electrical problem or an air lock than a duff pump, surely.
You could do worse than take it to NJS again and ask Neil to fix it.

Agree with Andy there above. Why didn't NJS do a bit of diagnosis to ascertain what the issue is before applying the software update? I would take it back to NJS or atleast speak to Neil over at NJS before doing any more. If you are worried about coolant flow, any half decent local garage should be able to bleed the cooling system to remove any air first if NJS are a bit further away.

I'm now getting this CEL and fault code. When the car gets up to temperature it throws the fault so I clear it and it's fine for the rest of the day. P2B61-00 Electronic Thermostat. The next day after standing cold over night, the same things happens. 3 days in a row now. I'm guessing the valve is sticking slightly just out of tolerance of the various sensors.
It seems to be a relatively common problem on American forums with an updated part now available. The trouble is that after hours of searching the web I can't find anywhere in this country that seems to supply them which seems crazy for what is basically a modern interpretation of a thermostatic valve. Has anyone replaced theirs and if so was it sourced from a main dealer?
