Right so last night it took about 3 hours todo an 1 hour drive but I got home without calling out the brakedown service so I am happy ish... I managed to get home by doing short 20min sprints to the lay-by (sometimes coasting in) un hooking the battery resetting the fault code and then setting off again.

So my question to you guys is does it sound like it will just need cleaning explained in some of the guides on the forum - I will give this ago tomorrow or is it more a complete failure - car is on 224,000 with an EGR and DPF delete.

Also where is the best place to buy a new one and are there any preferred models the Saab / GM ones seem to be cheaper than the alfa ones.

The weird thing is it worked fine for about 20 mins each time also it seemed to be perfect if i stayed off the motorway....?

Anyway let me know what you think.

What engine have you got? And what's actually wrong with the car?
Whoops forgot to mention its a 1.9 JTDM Car will run for about 20 mins then all power is lost, goes straight into limp mode. The Resetting the fault code resets light and it comes back on straight. The only solution was to remove the batter for a few mins then the car will run for about 20 min on the motorway but the car seems to run for longer if it is off the motorway but I could not figure out why.

Right so just to close this out - I took the throttle body off at the weekend it look looked in good condition. Turns out the electronic control unit (Inside the black box) was full of oil.... Cleaned it out and this fixed everything. I guess that the oil was stopping the sensor from knowing the position of the throttle. Is this common ?
