Hi guy & gals

I just wanted to let you know my latest experience I have had with new vospers:mad: site/old Ongaro's
.Its LONG but really important

Firstly there is NO definition between mechanics so YOU will have Vosper mechanics on our beautiful cars which I was really gutted about anyway back to the horror of our service.

We own a sensible Ford for the wife its had full main dealer history from new and in the interest of keeping the history up we decided to keep the main dealer history up.

This is the letter below we have had to write in on the appalling treatment and service we had ,SO you have been warned!!! I am blo*dy pi*sed the state of the car the garaged left in it was dangerous!...they carry out a "health check" illegal brakes, tyre that was ready to blow out ..funny enough this was the vibration !!!(we have a 7 hour drive ahead on Monday) suspension spring completely detached from the shock it was hanging over the shock it was as clear as day and night ..... all were check on the health check with all green ticks!!!!.. tyres, suspension, brakes etc…. you make your own mind I will never take my car to Ongaro (ex-excellent Alfa garage) / Vosper’s. Unless you want your wife to drive a dangerous car that you family could be injured in then crack on!....trading standards next stop

Letter below

"
My car was booked in for a major service at your branch in Camborne on Wednesday 13 May 2009. At the point of confirming the booking I advised the member of staff that I was experiencing some vibration in the vehicle, and was told to report this to the person who booked my car in on the day. When I arrived at the garage that morning I advised the person there of the vibration and that the person I had spoken to before said for them to make a note of this so that they could have a look for the problem whilst carrying out my service. I phoned late that afternoon after not receiving a call to advise me that my vehicle was ready to see if I could pick it up. I was advised at that point that I could collect it whenever I was ready.

When getting to the garage to pick up my car I was met at reception with the paperwork where the member of staff ran through your ‘healthcheck’ that had been carried out and advised me of the issues that had occurred, firstly being the front brakes which I was told were worn and that when I bring the car back at some point these should be changed, they received a tick in the amber section of the form. Secondly I was advised that my windscreen wipers needed replacing and that the washer fluid was working intermittently, this appears to now be the case however I did not previously have any problems with this. Finally what they expressed to be the most serious issue was a slight engine coolant leak, however the member of staff said that as this tick was only in the amber section, it was something I should consider getting done at some point, but it was not drastic as the red box had not been ticked. At this point as nothing had been mentioned about them finding anything that may have been causing the vibration in my car, I asked if they has noticed anything. I was told at this point that they had not. I said I was surprised at this as the vibration had become very bad. I was then advised that as it was nothing they had picked up from doing the service I would have to bring the car back for further inspection. I asked the cost of this and was told approximately £55 per hour. The member of staff that I would assume carried out my service then entered the reception as he checked with the colleague I was dealing with that he had advised me about the coolant leak, which he had. I then asked if they could give me a rough figure for the cost of doing the work to repair this fault and I was told that they did not know. I think it is unreasonable to expect someone to book in their car for a job that they have no idea how much it will cost. I can appreciate that it is difficult to give exact figures before hand, but not to give any idea at all is unsatisfactory.

Having been unsatisfied with the service I had received that day, I took my car to another garage on the Saturday 16 May 2009, for them to investigate the vibration in my car. I was sat in the reception area of that garage for approximately 5 minutes after they had taken my car in to look at it, when the member of staff invited me to come and see the problem. On one side at the front of the car the strut in the suspension was cracked and on the other side the spring was not even sitting in place properly. He also advised that my front brake discs were completely ‘shot’ and would not pass an MOT therefore making them illegal. He advised that my car should have never left a garage in this dangerous condition. They then went on to check the balance of my tyres to find that the tyre on the rear of the driver side was completely out of shape, it had a large bulge coming out of one side which would have also caused vibrations. I booked my car in at the earliest slot that they had which was Wednesday 20 May 2009 for all of these imperative jobs to be carried out.

When I saw these faults for myself at the garage I was absolutely shocked, even to untrained eyes such as mine I could clearly see all of these problems and there is no way that a full major service was carried out to a good standard at your garage. Part of your checks are to check wear and condition of tyres, this was obviously not done correctly as a very large bulge was missed. A check for ‘damage, wear, security and rubber deterioration’ was meant to be done in respect to the steering and suspension, and again there was no way that this was done with any care as glaringly obvious faults were missed.

I was sent away in a car that was completely unsafe to be on the road, the tyre was so misshapen that I could have suffered a blow out at any time and the damage to the suspension and wear to the front brake discs could also have resulted in a very dangerous outcome.

I took my car to Vospers for my service as I thought being the main dealer you would be the best people for the job, these are cars that you work on day in day out. I am much more than disappointed with the service I received, I was sent home with a vehicle that was dangerous to be on the road and in any circumstance this is not acceptable.

I enclosed a photocopy of the documents given to me from Vospers and copies of the invoices for the work I have since had carried out, for your reference.

I look forward to hearing from you in due course.

Yours Sincerely
"

Some of you may not agree but this is just my experience and may have been a one off? but dangerous illegal cars are not to be over looked, I feel I have a reasonability to make all my fellow Alfa owners aware of my experience its such a shame as Ongaro’s had such an excellent reputation , before Vosper’s got involved

Cheers Patrick

That is shocking that you have suffered such unbelievable service.... if I was the manager of this dealership, I would get the (so called) technician into my office and give them the biggest boll**king of their life.....

Words other than that fail me. Keep us up to date on any reply from them!

I have gone direct to there complaints department/ procedure, did not bother with have wit apologises form the local garage I want a result, I want an apology direct from the director Mr Vosper, local papers otherwise ...can you imagine .."local family avoid a near miss tragedy from incompetent staff at local main dealer" ...on a more worrying point imaged we were on are way to the lakes district on Monday as we are heading up there and we had a blow out at 85mph on the motorway I could be dead. Will not give up unless I get a result

In all honesty......I'm not in the slightest bit surprised. I did say to you all ages ago about the cowboy setup that they call Vospers and how I would never use them. Just confirms what alot of people already know.
Hope it all comes good for you Patrick.

Graham could be off if he gets the right deal but not on his own. Lets hope it comes good for him. Sure you can guess where....

Sorry to hear about that Paza.

Just had mine serviced and MOT'd there but Graham did the work so was excellent as ever :D Had a chat with Graham - he is still considering his options. I did mention that he had an excellent rep with the local Alfa community, so I'm sure we can support him whatever he chooses to do.

Not too sure about the customer service side of things with Vospers though... very difficult to get the phone answered on two different days and none of them struck me as particularly enthusiastic about cars, although I guess if you are coming from a Ford background then you probably wouldn't be  There was an older guy in asking about the scrappage scheme and Jonathan had to interject with some answers since the others didn't know

Jack is very poorly, started 3 weeks ago, poor idling, high revving in top gears, almost conking out at roundabouts, bad fuel consumption, won`t hold constants revs, have replaced....MAF and lambda sensor, variator, cam belt and pulleys, spark plugs, coil packs and leads, air and oil filter, and cleaned throttle housing with carb cleaner twice, did disconnect the battery ECU reset few days ago and jack was fine for 3 days, then started again.....like driving a brick, but a gorgeous brick........would turn him into water feature, but i love him to much, some mad old guy told me yeasterday that it might be a duff water temp sensor affecting idling?!? is he mad? i know i`m desparate....any advice would be greatly appreiciated!

I know its a fair drive but if you can get to plymouth there is an Alfa specialist up there that is very well respected.

The temp sensor is one that i would try, purely because of the bad running and high fuel consumption, try disconnecting it and see if it gets any worse

To be fair, most people who drive Fords are rapidly approaching death anyway :D

Have you tried asking for Graham? If he's not available then if Jonathan is still around then he'll be able to sort you out. Tell him we sent you and not to let any Vospers monkeys anywhere near it :p

I haven't tried Plymouth at all, but Scorrier might be another alternative. Haven't used them either but I think someone on here said they did a reasonable job.

Must admit, as AlfaPisky has said, our last inspection and suspension work by the Alfa boys was superb, car's great, but my experiences with Vospers have been tainted by recent experiences.

We'd ordered a badge through Jonathan after the handover to Vospers, and been told it was on back order (Fair enough, Alfa Romeo has never kept stuff like that on the shelf! ) and left my number to be called when it arrived.

I hadn't heard anything after a few weeks, so drove to Camborne on my day off to see if it was in. As I get there, the parts department door is shut with a sign saying out for a couple of hours, sorry for any inconvenience.

I ask the chaps behind the desk whether the badge is in, and they say they can't get to parts, he had just left, so you're out of luck.

They asked if i'd like to be called by the chap when he got back in, so I left my number again - it's been 2 weeks, and still no call back.

Silly little things to some people, but working for a Premium dealership, I know how bloody important a quality service and experience is to people. Sometimes money doesn't matter when the service is great.

Charging Alfa Romeo (Italian BMW equivalent) customers £11.50 for a courtesy car is just embarrassing, and shows how much Vospers are out of their comfort zone with Alfa.
