... why Firefox would improve my life as, currently, I use Internet
Explorer? What will it make me do, that I am not currently doing, that
will make me realise I have been missing out? What is so awful about
IE that Firefox will cure, even though I am perhaps not aware of this
awfulness?

Or is it just another browser and it's all a bit of a muchness and I would
really hardly tell the difference? Is all this talk of Firefox just a bit of
computer snobbery really? A case of I've got something you haven't?

Seriously, what does Firefox offer a very ordinary user of ther internet
that I do not already have? And do I really need it? Really?

for every 1 virus aimed at firefox there'll be about a thousand aimed at IE. firefox never, ever crashes. pages seem to load much quicker. and bill gates has enough money as it is

but seriously though, the absence of viruses, popups etc is really noticeable

What are pop ups?? Seriously, I'm not aware of ever seeing one. I
also have Norton anti-virus running and am not aware of having ever
had a virus. So, so far, no sale

Anything else ??

firefox is free gibbster

I switched when I had probs with IE, whenever I opened it, it would almost crash the PC. up till XP IE was mixed with windows explorer, so if IE crashed, windows explorer would go with it, so you would loose the start menu etc etc. if you know keyboard short cuts, you can bring it all back, however sadly not everyone does

Ah... I see Brad :D

So, what are we classing as a crash and how can I, a mere mortal,
identify a crash as being IE caused rather than something else?

Is Safari another browser then

Just do it! (Change to Firefox.)

You can zoom pages in and out on-the-fly with CTRL+ and CTRL-
which is a really good feature.

It's worth installing just for that.

Was it Firefox that introudced multiple windows? Ie. Having one browser open but using tabs enabling you to be viewing more than one window at a time?

Im pretty sure Firefox was doing that before IE was!

I switched to Firefox and can agree with everyone else, rarely crashes and just seems to work so much faster than IE!

I went over to Firefox when I upgraded to Vista last year, mainly because IE seemed very slow, and wouldn't work with AOL. After the change everything has speeded up.
However Gibbo, if IE works for you then there is no need to change it - "If it ain't broke, then don't try to fix it".

I use Firefox Gibbo. I've chosen a theme for it and I've got nice add ons as well, like an eBay browser that sits on the left had side of the screen and keeps me updated
