Does the 156 GTA have an oil cooler?
How accurate is the oil temperature guage on the 156 GTA?

Around town the oil temp is a stable 80C, but hard driving - no where as hard as track driving - the temp does rise to 100C. This seems high, but it could be that the guage is only reading a temp band of between 80 to 100C, so it could be 85 or 90. As it does show 100C it made me wonder if there was an oil cooler fitted? I would have hoped there woudl be for this level of power output!!

Anyone got any ideas/thoughts?

Cheers

Yes the GTA does have an oil cooler.
It is at the front of the car on the right hand side (there is also a cooler on the left for the power steering).

As David has said, there are two big, properly ducted coolers, one on each side of the radiator. There is also a cooler alongside the Rad, I think this is for the air con.

The oil cooler system would appear to be thermostatically controlled - the oil in the GTA seems to heat up swiftly but then stay quite stable.

100 degrees is fine, good fully synthetic oil can handle a constant 120-130 degrees or more, though with much of this sort of use you would want to change it more often! 100 is fine.
