Hello chums me again, Just a wee question I noticed the other day an oil leak
and oil spray on the N/S bulk head/ fire wall, After cleaning the oil off with carb
cleaner I've identified the leak as coming from the N/S drive shaft right at the
point where it joins the box.. I've been told it may just be the oil seal? Any views
or advice please also an idea of cost to change at a specialist:thumbs:

Yep driveshaft oil seal is a reletivly cheap part. Had a clutch change recently? Usually the leak when caught which only happens when they have had the driveshaft out. Quite rare for them to leak otherwise. Just check underneath between the gearbox and the crank case to make sure its not rear main oil seal which is a bit expensive job as box has to come out. Easy way to check is smell the oil. If its funky then its gearbox oil.

Hi
I have an oil leak. Checked the underside when on the ramp today but its too spread to be able to locate the exact source. The oil is engine oil (not gearbox oil) and the Ford engineer thinks is most likely the rear main seal. Does anyone have a view on this. Its just a few drips nothing too major yet but I don't want to leave it.

Have you checked the oil cooler?

Cheers but took it to Monza Sport, W Sussex and they agree its the rear main. Not a problem as the leak is minor but think I will save the pennies and get the clutch done at the same time maybe at the next service in 4K miles - flip - that's just at the end of Jan based on current commute of 80/day. (Last service was late so might stretch it a bit and split the difference).
