Don't know whether anyone can help me ... but I can't find the ODB port on my wifes '04 Renault Scenic ... I could just buy the haynes manual ... but that would be far too easy ...

Down by the handbrake of all places - you'll have to lift the rubber surround which isn't that easy. Unless you have the sliding centre console thing, slide that right back to expose the OBD.
At least it's easier than the Megane - the OBD cover always breaks when you extract it.

But my wifes car has got one of those silly automatic handbrakes ... so I presume that it would be in a position where the handbrake "should" be ...

Yep, same place - on the floor between the front seats under the rubber mat :)
