Hi

I have a 99 ph2 2.0ts that is running really rich and idle's rough with some degree of hunting. its using loads of fuel (managed 80miles from £20 (it was driven v hard though) and ive heard its probably the o2 lambda sensord that need changing, and there are 2 of them, where are they and how do i change them?

Sorry if this is noddy but i'm and aircraft mechanic not a car mechanic so handy with a tool kit but only have the basic ideas on cars

I'm sure there's only 1 on the PH2 (that's what i've had trouble with) I replaced mine which took about 15 minutes, It's located just by the Cat, it's very hard to miss once you're under the car, Just jack her up a few inches, placing the new cable is a pain in the backside though, Unless you buy one of the cheaper versions and snip the cable and crimp the new sensor to it.

I think the same as Davemackenzie that you have only one lambda (CF2), but here are some pictures and part numbers for both CF2 and CF3.

2000TS CF2

AR: 46750241 Bosch: 0258006190 (number 10 in the picture)

2000TS CF3

front AR: 46762182 Bosch: 0258006411 (number 18 in the picture)
rear AR: 46786048 Bosch: 0258006376 (number 5 in the picture)

I noticed these sensors have a heating element in them which is activated when the ignition is on (and when engine cold?)... Does anyone know if this will wear out prematurely if the ignition is left on without the engine running?

CF2 def only has 1 sensor - its just before the CAT.

Do not replace with cheap junk off eBay. Buy cheap buy twice as ever with these cars.

sounds like a plan buddy, was only gonna get the cheap ones off ebay, it take it its http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-4-wir...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5634ad1cb4 i need?
I personally would advise you against fitting one of these cheap aftermarket lambdas if you are planning on keeping the car. They might appear to run fine and get you through an mot, but they are never as good as a Bosch lambda. Had one on my TS and apart from running a bit rough when engine cold, fuel consumption was very poor - was getting around 32mpg driving mostly on country roads. I replaced it with a Bosch universal type lambda (LS 615) and now I'm getting consistently around 37mpg (close to the figures that Alfa claim). This alone is an incentive to go for a Bosch.
With the cheap lambda, once the engine warmed up, it appeared to be running fine, idling at a steady 800rpm with only a bit of hesitation when accelerating below 3000rpm. There was no obvious indication that the lambda was not doing it's job, other factors could have been causing the hesitation, but the difference with the Bosch lambda fitted is obvious.
If you are opting for one of the universal type lambdas, ensure that the cables are connected correctly - failure will destroy the lambda.
If you do a search on this site a lot has said regards these cheap lambdas.

where's best to get a bosch lambda from? ive found a LS615 as mentioned above for £78 delivered but ive google it and found people saying theyve bought one for £50 new. Ebay doesn't seem to have one for a 99 twinny but has every other year. If anyone knows where to get these at a good price please let me know or is the £78 a good price

is the CF1,2,3 same as the phases?
Think you can describe the CF thingy like this, if not then will it probably be corrected soon.

CF1 engines: TS-alloy rocker cover and throttle cable, V6-throttle cable.
CF2 engines: TS-plastic rocker cover and throttle cable, V6-electronic throttle.

in consistent with Euro 2 stage (1996) emission standard.

Both TS and V6 have just one cat located underneath the car, phase 1 and 2.

CF3 engines: TS-plastic rocker cover and electronic throttle, V6-electronic throttle and the engine ecu on inlet manifold.

in consistent with Euro 3 stage (2000) emission standard.

Both Ts and V6 have three cats, two located at the exhaust manifold/s and one cat located underneath the car, phase 2 and 3.

i have just taken my cat scilencer of a cf3 2.0ts spider, i get loads of lambda type fault lights that always come back after reseting the lights so i thought i would change the lambda aswell

the problem i have is what should be the lambda no.5 above, when i have removed it, has the part no of no.18 stamped on it, looking at the spec of it the cable of part no 0258006411 is 1510mm long which is the length needed to go right up the back of the engine and 0258006376 only has 400mm of cable which is only enough to go from the front lambda to their sockets. i suspect that eper has the part no.s transposed on this diagram, or is this why i always get lambda faults because someone has fitted the wrong lambda to my car?

It seems that EPER has mixed the different lambda probes:mad:, if you take a look at Bosch online catalog it lists 0258006411 (LS 6411) as a lambda diagnosis sensor (post cat-number 5 in the picture) and 0258006376 (LS 6376) as a lambda control sensor (pre cat-number 18 in the picture), it is confusing as sellers of bosch lambda also list 0258006376 as EPER do (post cat) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LS6376-Bo...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2314a1ce30 but at the same time they also list 0258006411 as a diagnosis sensor (post cat) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LS6411-Bo...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a147585d3 , so you are likely to have the correct configuration of your lambdas according to Bosch who probably are the ones you should trust on this.
:)
