Let's keep an easy-to-find database on the good, the bad & the ugly of North West Alfa Romeo garages/parts suppliers etc. Post details here of recommended companies, handy online suppliers and so on...

Also, don't be afraid to name & shame the places who've let you down - (but stick to the facts only please as opinions are subjective and portentially libellous  )

do we include body shops too? i know they are not technically AR specialists but accidents happen and a decent recommended body shop is sometimes hard to come by

I'll kick off with Heath Road Garage in Sandbach. Run by Alfie, top fella and very knowledgable on Alfas (he is ex-Mangoletsi) - did my last service and was refreshingly honest & straightforward. I'd definitely recommend him

Right then. i know of a very good body shop in Burnley called Base Autobodies. its a small place at the moment but the 2 guys that work there are top fellas who used to work for both VW and Bentley. i have used them for my 2.0 GTV and my Mini, both near perfect results.

oh, one of them is my cousin so tell 'em i sent you and you will more than likely get a discount :D

Since it looks as though I've started something - I guess that I had better post the original again!

I need a touch up paint spray to repair minor scuffs (offside rear wheelarch) and chips (front) but have been unable to source Alfa colours at my local Halfords or car accessory shops. Checked on-line and found several companies that would mix custom colours but they wanted between £16 and £24 per 400ml spray can. That gave me an idea so I went to my local pro paintshop supplies in Southport and they quoted just £8.50 + VAT for the same 400 can. Better still, they will take tthe basic Alfa paint code then use colour samples alongside the car to match the colour exactly taking into account any fading over time. Not tried it yet but thought this might be a help for others.

I used GTA Car Sales near Preston once.
They do cheap alloys (they're cheap for a reason) and sell cars out of agricultural lockup.
Lots written about them on here.
Some good, some bad.
But, I would NEVER EVER go back to them again. :tut:

I'll use Mangoletsi whilst the 159 is still under warranty. Not cheap but always seem to do a good service job.

i've had a couple of alloy wheels from them. nice enough blokes but, as you say, they're cheap for a reason. the wheels are made of cheese and dent far too easily

I can recommend Ferdi's in Lytham. Only a small place but always other Alfa's, Ferrari's, E-Type Jags etc etc in there when I go. Great service and reasonably priced too.

I used to take my 75 V6 to Ferdi and found him great. that was when I had a business in Blackpool though - it's not as convenient for me now.

Cars in at MVC at Sale today for service and brakes. I'll let you know how they perform once I get it back - hopefully later today!
Please do, they are a stones throw from me - I usually do as much as I can on my 156, but handy to know someone local that can handle Alfa's if need be :)

The story so far!

Took it in and found they had 2 x 156's and a 155 already in - so promising so far.

Chatted to the guy who opened up and he knew all the usual things - knocking suspension, stripped thread on sump plug, etc etc!

I aksed them to do a 120,000 service (£170 inc NGK plugs:cool: ), and I wanted front pads doing. They rang me today to say the pads are low but it's the disc that's badly rimmed - which TBH I already knew. They also said the rear discs are not only scored but also badly corroded.

So end result is...

£170 for the service :)
£180 for front and rear discs and pads
£75 to fit front and read pads (1.5 hours) :) :)
And I asked if they'd fit the lower suspension arms to the OS which I havent got round to doing - I've done OS upper and NS upper and lower - anyway - he she said they'd only charge £50 (1 hour) to do this as the car's on the ramp anyway (took me 1.5 days!!!!!)

All in all £489 to have everything done, which I think is very reasonable (the £50 an hour makes a big difference). Dont get her back until tomorrow night and then I'll try her out driving back to the NE from Manchester Friday night. I'll report back next week.

To date - very happy with the service - fingers crossed.

Oh, one last thing - they're right next to the Sale tram line thingy - so jumped on that to get straight into Shudehill - bonus
