Hi,

I have just bought an Alfa 156 and i really love the car but when im driving it there is a squeeling noise coming from the engine, almost like a loose belt, when i oil the auxillery belt its ok for an hour or so, Also i have absolutely no power in first or second gears and its reallly frustrating. Would anyone hve any ideas as to what it may be? Kinda worrying me incase it's expensive to get sorted?

Hope someone can put my mind at ease?

What engine is in the car?

But without knowing that I'd have to say that you probably have a collapsed bearing on the Aux belt idler/s or tensioner, though that shouldn't affect the power of the car realy, but if the power steering pump had a dodgy bearing or the Aircon pump clutch had failed then that would cause drag on the aux and this could drain power from the mill.

Hi,

Thanks, it is a 2.0 Twinspark. I have it booked in with an Alfa specialist in the morning so hopefully its nothing too tricky or expensive. Thanks Again, Anthony:thumbs:

Just got it back from the Alfa specialist, Turned ou it had the head gasket replaced before bu the idiot that did it never put the crank shaft pully or aux belt back on the right way which led to the squeeling noise, In terms of the lack of power it needed the timing valve reset, also led from the gasket replacement !!!! Now i need new suspesion arms, this guy really did not look after the car before i got it!!    :tut:
