It's been 10 years since Alfa Romeo (Fiat) has created the 'last GTA. We have seen many prototypes like the 159 GTA would have a Maserati V8 under the hood. We saw the Mi.To GTA, the Brera GTA ........but now, in 2011 we can't see even a shadow of a new GTA.

What's wrong with Alfa Romeo .......or better ......WHAT'S WRONG WITH FIAT ???

I think we really need other new Italian Sport Cars. Yes we have Ferrari , Maserati , Lamborghini but ....how many people can buy these cars ?

I hope we'll see a new GTA , maybe with the RWD :D ....it's time to return to the origins ! Real Alfa Romeo not built over Fiat models "bases" and the pretty RWD !

Do you think that it's possible ??

Can't see another Gta to be honest, what with fuel prices and emissions and all that, the true Alfa v6 has gone. It's all turbos now, so any sporty Alfa in the near future will just have a fiat turbo engine. Sad times!

The 4C is more "GTA" than either the 156 or 147 GTA, which were heavier than the original cars! It's also RWD. The 4C will be sold across the world, probably in reasonable numbers. Don't forget the 156 and 147 GTAs were not high production numbers.

The revival of the GTA name came when Alfa was still racing - they used the 156 GTA brand in the 2002 ETCC races when they launched the 156 GTA (even though the race car was 2.0L). There's probably less interest in the GTA as a brand now they are not racing. Don't forget there was a lot of talk of the 4C being called "GTA" but they dropped that idea, even though it is by far the lightest car Alfa have produced for long time.

So I don't think you will see any GTAs in the near term. Luca di Meo was very keen on the GTA brand when he was CEO (he was going to launch the MiTo GTA), since he left the interest seems to have gone.

The 'GTA' brand was never supposed to have longevity, it was an exclusive short term brand and one to be remembered for the future. Alot of alfas of old have this exclusivity, it makes them rarer I suppose unlike M3, RS4and STI etc who all follow their brand on with new models, not that there's anything wrong with this.

I can understand the fustration of it but as a GTA owner its nice to know my car will always be revered after subsequent models are produced, otherwise like BMW it just becomes the norm for every new model to have a GTA added to the roster. IMO of course.

I read on pistonheads there is a new quatroporte coming out in two specs. The smaller one was developed to be the new big alfa with rwd platform and a new GM V6 Na block but they decided to make it a maserati so they can sell it for more money!

Alfa has never done big saloons well anyway, making it a Maser makes more sense. The 4C is right where Alfa needs to be in terms of a halo car. They will never beat the Busso engined V6s, so not worth trying (even though the Giulia will be available in V6 Pentastar guise). Focusing on the engines in the MiTo and Giulietta makes (economic) sense.

The best think of the 4C GTA is its Weigth !!!!!! :inlove: Buss V6 remains 100 times better then the 1750 Tbi. It's a great engine yes ....but...mm ....I don't know. Just listen to its sound.

Absolutely that's not a bad sound .....but it doesn't reach my Soul when I hear that.

There will never be another engine like the Busso V6 (sadly). So treasure the car you have!

The 1750 is the closest you will ever get in the future to a "real" Alfa engine, ie one that is primarily designed for Alfas. Future V6s will be tweaked Pentastars which may well be good engines but just won't have that unique "Alfa" feeling.

Cheers,

Nigel
