Hi everyone - Just bought an 04 plate JTD 147 which i'm highly pleased with but....brakes make a deep rumbling noise when applied at motorway speeds [50 mph and above] also a bit of shake through the steering at the same time but not horrendous. Otherwise they're fine and pull the car up ok with no undue noises around town and just passed MOT no problem. Looking at service history this has been a problem before [front pads etc replaced at 30'000miles] anyone else experienced this problem on a 147 - thanks in advance - chris.

You probably just need new discs and pads.

Have you actually looked at them at all?

I've got the same car and I have usually had to change brakes and pads every 2 years or so. Not a big cost if you do it yourself about £150 last time I did it with pattern discs and Alfa pads. I must admit I'm thinking of changing the front discs to a Tarox item with curved grooves. Everyone I know seems to have had problems with drilled discs cracking?
