it's weeks like this that make me glad I'm leaving

I thought they were going to redo the bands too to push all those 520d and A6s that suddenly made band B by 1-5g CO2/km. Would have been a better way to manage it..

With carbon taxes on fuel gone up, VAT increases, and the rest.. it's not exactly encouraging anyone to buy anything right now...
Oh wait - we're encouraging buying property for first time buyers again - sound familiar!?! :(

Is that just for first time buyers or everyone?
Hold it for 7 years and no capital gains tax liability (would suggest investor activity).
But if you don't make a profit there'll be no CGT liability anyway!!!

Mines up to €592 :( . Although on the otherhand thankfully mines an '07 reg, because if it was registered after July 2008 I would be paying Band F - €1,050 to €1,129. :O

Wifes CRV diesel is now up to €925. The guy around the corner with a 520d worth 5 times our CRV is paying SEVEN HUNDRED EURO LESS.

I get that they want efficient cars, but that sort of gap is not on.

If it was fair, you should be entitled to at least pick which version you would want to pay, especially as older diesels arent worth that much. At least with petrol cars, none of them are worth much!!

Although I agree re the differential, the value of the car has nothing to do with it.

I suppose the 'spirit' behind the car tax system is that if you can afford a bigger engined car then you must be wealthier and hence in a better position to pay.
An observation not necessarily my view as to what would be fair.

I do agree with the tax the fuel system but as a cynic I would fear a re-introduction because times are hard etc so I would be very slow to push for that - + all the jobs that would be lost in the tax offices...

I think the issue here was introducing silly low tax bands for the newer models with their stop strat nonsense and IMO fudging carbon output figures.
The older rates should have been left alone and the €104 etc should have been doubled IMO.

Rant over (and not a hint of sarcasm - displaying personal growth)

last time i looked a '09 Alfa 147 1.6TS, >€2000 road tax.

It's actually currently €1050 for a 147 1.6 TS registered after July 2008, rising to €1129 from January 2012.

Band F : More than 190g/km up to and including 225g/km

Shocking!
Still correct.

It's part of the reason Alfa couldn't sell Petrol cars ( the 147 & GT ) after July '08, that & the fact the VRT changes implemented meant car list prices of petrols increased by thousands & the list price of diesels dropped by thousands.

€885 + €660 = €1545 / yr for the cars... Great. That's a 7.5% increase. But at least the local roads will now be 7.5% better! That means I can travel more than 4mph to work in the morning..

(and yes I know it's not quite a main road..)
