Screw cap on, hold cap, turn key clockwise, pull key out.
At least that's how mine works.
Thanks , managed to sus it out when my wife came home. According to manual it's supposed to click when turned right , then you lock clockwise with key ...mine does not click however I discovered if I turn cap a half turn (only) then turn key it locks .....;)

Same cap on the fiat 500, the wife still cannot lock it after 4yrs!

To open turn cap anticlock wise then turn key anticlockwise, and as others have said to lock do it in reverse: turn cap clockwise then turn key clockwise.

Must admit both cars do catch me out on the odd occasion if I'm rushing, I'm not telling the Mrs though.

Hi, I had the same problem with mine but after a while I realised that I was pushing down too hard when replacing the cap, so I now just place the cap on and turn the key and it works fine every time, hope this helps.

There's loads of novelty styling recaptures just to distract you on the DS3!
A Fiesta has a locking fuel flap.
